acutene gives you one last big bang of achne?
someone told me that after a week of taking acutene i will get a huge breakout then it will all be smooth sailing from there.
i am wondering what the reason for this would be. i dont see any logic in it and have never heard anything about one last big breakout.
Since acutene stops your oil glands from producing oil how will that give you one last big breakout?
is this bull**** or what?

it pushes all the oil out of your pores....therefore you have extremely high amounts of oil then usual causin extreme amounts of acne...the firt 2 times i went on acutane i didnt get huge break outs....just went back on it and did...nothin over the top...but now my arms are hella dry and it sucks...but acne is gone wayyyyy down...

I took accutane a few years ago.
For me I got a HUGE breakout that pretty much started as soon as I went on accutane and started building. In about 2 or 3 weeks I had, by far, the worst break out I've ever had in my life. I was really really bad. I went from just having acne on my chin, a cpl pimples on my nose and forehead every once in a while to being covered. I had acne on my cheeks pretty bad and before accutane I had never once gotten any acne of any kind on my cheeks. My back and chest broke out a little bit too. It was just really really disgusting. As soon as it got to it's peak it slowly started clearing up tho. I started accutane probably about 3 weeks before highschool started (Sept. 9 is about when highschool here starts) and by Christmas time I was almost completely acne free. Face was still really dry tho. Had to use a ton of oil free face moisturizer in those 6 months of accutane.
My dermatologist warned me that almost everyone breaks out after a few weeks on accutane and it varies for everyone. Some people only breakout a tiny bit, others, the lucky few, don't break out at all. I was on the very unlucky end of the spectrum. One thing tho.....everyone's face gets really dry. Doesn't sound too bad but trust me, it's an extremely unpleasant experience. I mean you need to reapply chapstick every hour (I probably did it every 30-45 minutes), your ears will get really dry and start flaking like crazy, you get some dandruff, if you don't put on a ton of moisturizer in the morning you will look like a monster w/ all the skin flaking off of you face. But if you can apply moisturizer 3 times a day morning, mid-day and night, use Head and Shoulders (or something like that), and NEVER and I mean NEVER forget you Chapstick (I ditched school to walk down to 7/11 on day because it was unbearable to not have it, and I couldn't drive at the time) and you're not one of the unlucky ones like me it's not that big of an ordeal. Just don't forget to do any of that stuff. And don't forget to moisturize your ears and you'll be fine.
Looking back on it I'm glad I did it, but I still have blackheads on my nose.

You might you might not. You WILL get all of the other sides that most have stated above though. I recommend the chapstick that comes with the little ball bearing in it now that would have made life a lot nicer back in the days when i was on it.

it pushes all the junk out first... therefore your going to be hideous looking once that occurs....but after, its a smooth road...
accutane is NOT a miracle drug tho....the side effects are nothing to joke about....and for me, the acne came back about 3 months later (not as strong) ... i use normal BP and face cleansers now and that works just fine

I use tetracycline, it works really well, except that it has to be taken on an empty stomach, which would be hard for a bb'er.

I took it for 6 months. Usually it is given in doses of 6 or 12 months depending on the severity of the acne. At about 3 months my acne just about tripled. I asked my dermatologist why this happened and he said because the accutane actually takes all of the pimples DEEP DEEP down in your pores and pushes them out. After that, my acne was basically cured. I had to get my blood checked once a month because it can mess with your liver(I think). It causes SEVERE lip dryness and makes them so chapped that you can actually peel youf lips off it you want to. I made Carmex my best friend for 6 months. Accutane WORKS, just very expensive considering it is the cure for acne. I still get a zit or two every now and then but that's not unusual. I have never had a breakout since I got done with it. Good ****

it didn't really happen for me.
I had severe acne, but I really didn't notice one last big outbreak - it just started clearing up, but that's probably cause every day was like a big outbreak to me :S

So what you are all saying is that acutene takes all your pimples and pushes them out then stops you from producing oil period? weird how a pill could do all that.
