Fireworks

Since the 4th of July is coming up, I was wondering what you guys thought about fireworks. Should they be legal/illegal? Where I live in California, aerial fireworks and a few other types are illegal. Personally I think that all fireworks should be legal because if we illegalized something everytime someone was injured/killed because of it, then there would hardly be anything left. More people are killed/injured from bicycles than from fireworks but that doesn't mean we should ban bicycles. I think if you don't misuse fireworks and you handle them properly you'll be alright. So what do you guys think?

I don't think all fireworks should be legal. This doesn't mean I don't necessarily hate illegal fireworks but they are illegal for a reason, they are dangerous. All we need is for a retarded little kid to light off a mortar and have it flying into someone's backyard with dry grass and burning it down.

I still buy illegal fireworks and I use safe practices when lighting them but I don't agree that the general public is responsible enough to use them though.

I live in Orange County, my city allows legal fireworks.

I live in Kansas. In the country part, most all are allowed. In the cities like Concordia and Topeka, fireworks that shoot high like Roman Candles arn't allowed because of the phone wires. Bottle Rockets arn't allowed because of the fact that so many houses were burnt down a couple years ago because they got stuck on the roofs of houses.

Not all should be legal.

they just completely legalised fireworks in indiana recently, but they put down more laws and restrictions on where you can set them off at.

i personally wouldn't be against requiring people who want to setoff the more powerful and dangerous fireworks to take a course on fireworks safety and such.

im a well trained, and self trained, pyro. i know all of the potential problems a firework can have and i take every safety measure imaginable when lighting them. i always have a hose and one or two fire extinguishers on hand. i set them off several hundred feet away from spectators and communicate with those around me so that no one is caugh off guard by any fireworks. we keep all of the unlit ones covered at all times so that no stray sparks can set them off.

there is no issue with the devices, only with the safety precautions people take with them.

me and my friends do sometimes bend or break some safety rules but we also know how different fireworks react in situations they shouldn't be in. we know what mortars do when lit outside of the tube, we know what happens when combining different fireworks together for larger explosions, we are well practiced and know every possible issue that can arise from what we do.

i admit we take big risks, but i also think we take more precautions than are necessary and that's what makes us more prepared than most.

fireworks are safe as long as you follow instructions. light the wick, and step the hell away! don't wait for the wick to almost touch the tube of gunpowder. common sense.
obviously fireworks shouldn't all be legal, because there are dopes out there who lack common sense, and they ruin it for everyone else.
