Knightowl's **Head to Head ** Optimum 100% VS. Dymatize Elite whey review
I've been meaning to write this review for a long time seeing all the questions about "which whey is the best?" and most people recommending ON 100% whey !
This is head to head review that is going to concentrate on the typical three main aspects when considering protein powders :
1.Price
2.Taste
3.Mixability
Dymatize elite whey
this is description is out of date it is a shame that many bodybuilders look at the ingredients and they see whey concentrate being first . The updated version lists Ion-exchange whey protein isolates first then cross flow ultra filtration whey protein peptides . (I am typing what is says on the actual tub)
Dymatize has 40 mg of an enzyme blend
Optimum nutrition 100% whey protein
Optimum nutrition has 25 mg of enzyme blend
Flavours being reviewed are
ON 100% whey : Rocky road , choclate , choclate mint
Dymatize elite: Cafe Mocha, Rich choclate, Berry blast
ON 100% whey
1.price $28.89
2.taste
(In skim milk 6-7 oz)
Rocky Road: Great at first but gets old way too fast [ 7/10]
Choclate: not a great choclate taste but not bad [7.5/10]
Choclate mint: a refreshing taste, the mint adds a nice flavour [8/10]
(In water 4-6oz)
Rocky road:Terrible [3/10]
choclate:better but still bad [4/10]
Choclate mint : as bad as choclate [4/10]
Mixability: ON 100% has good mixability not clumpy and pretty insatntized
shake it a few times and you have a good mix [9/10]
Dymatize Elite
1. price $25.69
2. Taste
(in 6-7 oz of skim milk)
Berry blast: weird berry taste not bad at all but wouldn't want to buy 5lbs of it [7/10]
Rich Choclate: this is pretty good ! better than ON 's choclate [8.5/10]
Cafe Mocha: This Can't be real! Greatest protein taste ever has a good taste of mocha in it, it just can't taste that GOOD !!! If you are a coffee lover like me ,then this flavour is for YOU! [9.75/10]
(in water 5-6 oz)
I only tried cafe mocha with water and some crushed ice and it is by FAR the best protein taste in water that is actually GOOD!!! comparing this to ON 100% whey in water i will give it [9/10] absoultely AMAZING .
3. Mixability: Dymatize mixability is not as good as ON 100%, but with a few more shakes it mixes nicely so all it needs is some patience . [8/10]
Overall
My choice is definitly going to Dymatize elite for the following reasons:
1.the flavours are much better than ON 100% whey
2. it is Less expensive , better bang for your buck
3.40 mg of enzyme blend Vs 25 mg of ON's 100% whey (less protein farts!)
4.the taste is not just better it is stronger and not faint like ON 100% (little more sugary taste which i like)
5.you can actually like the taste of this whey in water for a nice postworkout shake
The only thing better about ON 100% whey in my opinion is the mixability but that does not bother me at all , i'd rather drink something that tastes Good than whey that will save me 10 seconds of shaking time.
*Notice: Dyamtize does not list the Amino acid break down but it is not going to vary significantly enough between similar blends so i would definitly not hold this against dymatize although it would be nice to list them.
I have yet to try butter toffee from Dymatize as I heard great things about it
I hope this was a helpful review to all those that wanting to know how Dymatize elite compares to ON 100% whey

I've also chosen Dymatize over ON recently but only because of the much lower cholesterol claim. As far as I can tell everything else is very comparable. I only hope the claims on the label are accurate.

Good review man,
What is the protein profile? Both similar, everyone says ON is the one of the best protein profile, for it's price, etc.
But what about Dymatize?

too bad bb.com did not update the profile for elite yet. it has been more that a year
many people think wpc is the first ingredient but wpi is listed first instead.

yep, dymatize has yet to disappoint with me any of their flavors. i agree that cafe mocha is the sh*t. butter cream toffee, pina colada, and banana arent too far behind either.

I'm temped to try Dymatize, but one thing it doesn't list is bcaa's. In Optimum's whey, every scoop has 4 grams of glutamine, and 5 grams of bcaa's, that alone makes it worth the price to me. I'm sure the bcaa's in ON's whey isn't as good as purple wrath, but each serving of purple wrath only has 7 grams of bcaa's. I eat about 7or 8 scoops of ON whey daily, so i'm getting a lot of protein and mega dosing bcaa's at the same time without taking a separate supplement. That fact alone made me switch to ON's whey, i'd say it's worth the $2 difference in price

Agree ! I never cared about the cholestrol profile but when you take more than 3 scoops a day then it all adds up !
Dymatize has 5 mg per serving Vs 30 of ON's 100% !!!
One more reason why Dymatize wins!
Tdot guy: the actual ingredients of Dymatize Elite are very similar to ON's 100% whey listing WPI first then WPC. for all the above reasons I choose Dymatize over ON

this does not mean you are megadosing BCAA's. they are not in their free form in whey protein. the body will utilize them better when taken them in their free form. in whey, they are a componet of a complete protein. dont get me wrong, the BCAA's included are still beneficial but you wont be experiencing the results of a true BCAA megadosing protocol.

ON whey does have a lot of cholesterol, but we don't know if it's HDL or LDL, a quote from
http://www.stayinginshape.com/3osfcorp/libv/h06.shtml
"not all cholesterol is bad. AHA says that a high level of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol is believed to be beneficial."
if we can confirm that ON whey has LDL instead of HDL, i'll switch to dymatized whey instantly. also my post above also mention the bcaa and glutamine benefits of ON's whey. Is there a way to find if dymatized whey has those 2 ingredients, and if so how much

Yodoso:
The ON blend and the Dymatize blend are very similar .They list WPI then WPC. every protein has BCAA's and other Amino acids (including glutamine) I.e ON does not add BCAA's to their blend it is included in the actual protein so Dymatize has a very similar amount of Bcaa's and Glutamine in the blend to that of ON's.
A free form BCAA supplement like xtend or mrm bcaa+g or even purple wrath (it has EAA i.e. essential amino acids and BCAA) is not bonded like what is in normal whey so it is absorbed faster allowing you to recover faster from workout and spare muscle mass .so they are not the same.
taking 8 scoops of ON's whey gives 240 mg of cholestrol while recommended value is about 300 mg so be careful (though there have been studies showing that dietary cholestrol has little or nothing to do with human cholestrol )

So does the Dymatize have the same BCCA/Glutamine that ON has, or is that just speculation (Edcuated one or fact)...
Cause if all things are the same, and the price is better, and the TASTE is better, I'm for SURE switching...
right now i'm really intrigued.

I just recently switched from ON's Whey to Dymatize and think it was a good decision. The flavor I purchased is Orange Dreamsicle. It is suprisingly good in milk and not bad in water (not great by any means, but I can handle it). I think more people should check out this protein. I'll be trying out some new flavors of it soon.
Madevilz I was also curious about the Iso100 (I believe that's what you're talking about). I may buy that next time instead of another tub of Dymatize's regular whey. If I do ill let everyone know what I think about it in comparison.

proteins are made out of amino acids. just because it is not listed does not mean its not there.
good comparison OP, but what im really looking for is direct head to head flavor vs flavor. ON choco vs elite choco was a good example with dymatize winning by 10%. any chance you have tried dymatize mint and could make a comparison?

I dont think the ISO range will taste anywhere near as good as the Elite.
I have tried chocolate which was not that bad and iam currently taking fuzzy navel, which is quite weak in terms of taste.
For taste id recommend the elite range but one thing to note about the ISO range is that its quoted as 100% hydrolyzed.
cheers

The Dymatize Iso-100 (choco) is the best tasting protein powder i have ever tried in all my 7 years of protein shakes BUT that is comparing it to the aussie brands i have tried down here. I havent tried Dymatize Elite or ON 100% Whey yet, I do find the Iso-100 choco such a nice flavour that i really look forward to each shake and try to go out of my way to squeeze more shakes of it in. I would highly recommend it to folks but like i said maybe the Elite Whey does taste better, i am going to try Elite soon.

Optimum Nutrition need to bring an Isolate now as their 100% Whey is no longer good enough at this price as customer have variety of options in Dymatize Whey, Champion Nutrition Whey, Cytosport Whey and Matrix 5.0.
It gets beaten by Dymatize on profile, taste and cost.
It also gets beaten by Matrix 5.0 on profile and taste while the costing is comparable.
The one thing Optimum Nutrition need to do their whey is GAS. It is horrible. Even that Aminogen **** can't prevent all the gas.
Either their whey contains too much lactose or they use poor whey concentrate.

I would bet they use poor whey concentrate to help keep the cost down. That is why I don't care to pay more for the higher quality protiens like Nectar, and Dymatize.

Yeah, what they need to do is instead of fancy packaging and GOLD Standard ****, they need to redress the quality of their whey concentrate they use in their protein powder.
Or, re-name GOLD STANDARD to CLASSIC WHEY.

I could have called this review from the start I knew that dymatize would smoke ON on just about every catagory around. I don't get these people that say that ON taste good and that they love the flavors. If you have tried any other protien like Nectar, Isopure, and Dymatize then there is no way that you can think ON taste good.

ON proteins never tasted good.
Their Chocolate, Double Chocolate, Chocolate Mint are OK
Their Strawberry flavor is artificial/chemical like
Vanilla/Cookies and Creme are straightaway horrible
Yes you're right in this that they never had tasted Elite Whey, Matrix or Isolate proteins around.
The ones who claim that ON tastes "Very Good" are the ones which have probably migrated from Bioplex Whey, HDT Whey or even Pro Rated Whey protein - all of them tasted horrible.
Lets say like this; after having tasted GF Pro, Nectar, Substance, Matrix 5.0, SAN Volumass, Scitec Proteins - You wont touch any ON protein again.

I have to disagree about the price. ON is cheaper AND it has a higher percentage of protein than Dymatize.
If you get the 10lb of ON, you get 60 grams of protein per dollar. ON has about 80% protein per scoop
Dymatize is 53 grams of protein per dollar and only 74% protein per scoop.
Havent tasted either so I dont know about taste and mixability.
