Should i get a flat in the city centre?
Got a new job, have to relocate to a great city called Leeds in the UK.
First time and everything, should i go for the bachelor pad in the city or for a house just outside which i can also lease to other people?
It just feels awesome...knowing that my life is going in a new direction..
I'm feeling bachelor pad. Start getting some PIITB action etc...
WOOT!
Although i dont know how to make new friends in this place, what do you do inorder to socialise and meet new people in a whole different place?
Maybe i should join some therapy groups or something lol....some hot chicks in those..

Don't bother to watching their football club though. Tickets are a rip off for Championship level.

You're from Newcastle, I thought that would've been a better town than Leeds?

For my career? no sorry mate..
Opportnities for young professionals (accountants, bankers etc), are few and far between.
Had been searching for my next opprtunity in newcastle for nearly six months.
Two weeks ago i went to Leeds, signed up with agencies. Within a week i got an interview, passed some tests and was offered a job paying nearly double what i was on and i also get to fly abroad....
In short, Leeds saved my career. Outside of London Leeds is the largest provider of employment for England....i was also offered a position by RBS, but declined due to insane working hours, and the fact that they would not pay for my masters..
Lived in newcastle all my life, and just want a change of scenery..

I woulda thought Manchester woulda been the most likely choice for you to try being from oop nurth. Though i'm in Preston so it's real close to me anyhow.
PS - Defo the city centre **** palace... i mean, pad.

I've lived in Leeds for 3 years now, just graduating this summer
for accommodation, the nice places are either city centre or on the outskirts of the city, particularly in the North towards York and Harrogate - some serious money up there. The centre is surrounded by a ring of rough inner city areas id be wary of, although all the students live to the North West in Headingley and Hyde Park and there are alot of burglaries but serious crime isnt too bad because of a massive Police presence. Plus, if you buy a place in studentville you can rent rooms out for £60 a week plus.
I hail from near Manchester myself, and let me tell you for social life and shopping there is no other city in the UK that beats Leeds outside of London. During term time all the bars and clubs are open and packed 7 days a week and there are ALOT of clubs here. It wont take long for you to start meeting new people and its the kind of place that once you've been introduced to one or two social circles they just keep coming. It's ridiculous the number of young professionals around here, and most of them come to the student nights to try and pull a piece of ass straight out of high school
Oh and what *MAY* be of more interest to you being a young professional and all, outside of London Leeds is the biggest financial and legal centre in the UK. Im going to end up either here or in London.
Need to know anything else just PM me.

Sounds like you are exited & nervous. Thats great you are looking foward to a new 'life'..I'd go for the bachelor pad for sure!
Meeting people & making friends is the same all over the world, Getting to know the local people, Going to pubs. Joining a local football club or any sport for that matter will guarantee an active social life.
Best of luck bud!

You defo know your stuff mate!
Yes Leeds is the biggest financial services centre outside of London. This is why i started my hunt here a few weeks ago.
You are correct about the number of young professionals also, saw so many hot women mid-twenties in suits..lol.
Plus the offices are INSANE, this is the place to be for me right now. I can see myself doing some great work in Leeds. Plus there is a huge demand for accountants/lawyers in Leeds.
Mergers and acquisitions are happening on a daily basis and all the talent is being swallowed up by the organisations in Leeds.
I am excited and nervous lol...
Yes Leeds does look awesome..

no idea what your wage is going to be, but if you can afford it then id go look at some places down by the canal and the station. Lots of new apartment blocks springing up and very close to the finance sector

would £200k buy me a flat near the city or in the city centre?
I am thinking of renting out for the first six months, see how the job goes etc. And then buying a property and sharing it with someone (preferably a female pornstar).

yeah that should get you somewhere. decent 1 beds start just under 150k i think and then 200k would get you a nice 2 or 3 bed apartment
