moving out for 1st time........please help/advize older people.
so yes, i am 21. have a good job, and i want to move out.
i found a nice studio, affordable, convenient,i was very very close to signing and doing it, but at the last minute, i backed out because i realized i wasnt 100% ready and i needed to cover certain things beforehand.
as in-
having a bed. having some light furniture, i.e., recliner, kitchen table, coffee table, pots/pans,eating utensils......
having some money in the bank. (i earn good, but since i live at home, i piss it all away at clubs/clothes/food)
im going to take the next 2-3 months, patiently look for a place, and save money and start buying small things here and there. like tables and sofas from tag sales.
and and all advice is welcomed....

hmm well I know they say you should have at least enough money saved before moving in to cover your rent for 3 months. Good luck.

Yeah, make sure you thoroughly think things out. You don't realize even the smallest of things you will need when you are completely on your own. Even small things you don't think about like scissors, laundry detergent, cleaning supplies, etc you will need to buy. As long as you got the major things covered (i.e. dining table, bed, tables, chairs, couch, TV, etc), you can always pick up the small stuff later. Just be prepared to make multiple trips to Target/Wal-Mart/whatever, because you will forgot something you need.

1. Try and find a place that already has all utilities (or most utilities) included in the price of the rent. That way you don't have to worry about setting aside different piles of money for different utilities.
2. Start cooking your own food. Think up of different ways to save money.
3. Focus on your career. Work hard now and you can party up once you have a **** load of money piled up. Trust me, partying every weekend is quite overrated and I found that out the hard way.
4. Make friends at work that will benefit you in the long run. That doesn't mean ignore people that won't benefit your life but keep the number low.
5. Make a budget for every month and stick to it. If you go over the budget by a few hundred or so, try improving that next month. You can make your budget using a paper and pen and a list of all the bills you have for that month (use estimates for bills that haven't arrived yet).
6. Don't be afraid to ask your parents for help when you're running short of money for some reason. Don't forget to repay them once you're back up and running.
Good luck!

I'm with the Ikea dude...Good call with that one. I personally am spontaneous so as the saying goes. "You can't steal 2nd with your foot on 1st." Good luck, and don't over extend yourself on stupid stuff
