GIRL needs help. Do I CUT OUT ALL SUGAR. Hellllp.
Hey everyone. I love this site. I already have 2 pages of notes :-) You guys are soooo knowledgeable.
I am female 5'4" 116. Used to fast a lot..especially when I was a model yearrrs ago..but, every now & then, at this point. Always worked out...bought supplements/fat burners, etc. Always have been into it and stayed fit. Sometimes, I get too busy and miss several days of work outs. What I call fat, my Pro friends say is water. I've bought over the counter diuretics..[using one now] and this week, I'm doing HOODIA..app' suppressant. My goal is to get down to 100 lbs and get as toned as possible. Just Ripped.
I don't like my scrawny actress friends' bodies..[they have no form, no muscle and are just Boney!] But prefer the Figure & Fitness competitors' bodies. I love the gymnast's body, also. If I can get the body of the fitness girl in the "Fahrenheit" commercial..I will be satisfied. The only celeb's bodies I admire are Madonna & Janet Jackson--[when she's not eating fried chicken and biscuits and cake.] :-)
All the other chicks on these shows, in films, and singers..Do Not impress me.
I don't do steroids & not interested in getting that massive. I've been to a friend's show, loved it, & thought about competing..but, can't as I'm too busy. I stray from being strict on eating at times when I go out to dinner with a guy..but, I've fine tuned my eating even at restaurants, now. I go straight to salads, fish, or eggs. I don't do beef, chicken or pork..have totally cut out sodas for about a year now..and don't buy juices. I do Vitamin water, and the lite Gatoraids..I make fresh green tea almost daily. If I ever do cereal it is Cheerios, and I use vanilla lite soy drink in it. Never milk. I have totally fine-tuned my eating and feel I do OK. I never do fast foods..rarely sweets..and never sweets at restaurants after dinner.
OK, whew my question is...do I have to cut out ALL the sugar? I don't buy regular sugar anymore and buy Stevia, Organic evaporated cane juice and fructose from Whole Foods. I NEVER use artificial sweeteners anymore since reading about it basically poisoning us. I was a devoted Splenda user and once I did the research, I dumped it all. And found out about natural sweeteners. But, I can NOT drink tea without something in it. So, therefore, I'm using some kind of sweetener everyday. I also drink chocolate soy drink very often which has well over 20 something carbs. 2 glasses and I'm at over 50 carbs just in that drink. So, is it ok to use these natural sweeteners?
I've read on here, that green tea is good for fat burning or something..do U drink it with nothing in it? It seems I can not eliminate alllll the sugar from my life..and am I even supposed to?
=if u've read all of this, I really appreciate it. :-) Thaaanxx guys!

I'm just going to cut right to the chase. No, you do not need to cut out allsugar. Personally i use sweetners and swear by them. There has been controversy about them but in the end it turned out to be safe. You say you like tea but have to have something in it, well use a sweetner like i do. By all means stay away from white sugar and white flour. Those are horrific.

A lot to read SandDoll but I took the time for you .
I wouldn't say cut out ALL sugar. If you ABSOLUTELY have to consume something with sugar than by all means go for it. That just means you should work that much harder in the gym to compensate, but DO NOT go overboard.
I have been an AVID splenda fan. Whether it be in my tea, in my coffee or for any other type of sweetening that I may need. Like the above poster said, STAY AWAY from white sugar and enriched flour. The WORST things you can possibly consume IMO.
Looks like you already know a whole lot about everything (2 pages of notes) so I'm sure you already know that you can still consume sugar but not EXTRAORDINARY amounts. As I've been saying in my previous posts, we ALL have to have some sanity in our lives. Whether that sanity comes from an occasional beer, a piece of chocolate or even an ice cream cone from McDonald's. We are treating ourselves for our hard work.
But everytime I have my occasional beer...it motivates me MORE to work harder in my upcoming workouts.
I've written a lot too but SandDoll I'm sure you know better than to cut out sugar COMPLETELY if you like it. Just don't go overboard.

There is a reason that obesity, heart disease, etc., has increased right along side the consumption of sugar and white flour since the 1900's

I agree sandoll please try some spaces and paragraphs I went cross eyed for a minute there!
Anyway, I agree, you do not need to cut out all sugars but depends which you mean also, fructose I dont have a problem with as other benefits come from fruit.
Dont over do the sugars intake though - especially Soda, 500 ml = 50 g carbs and all sugars, 50 g sugar, get some scales and weigh it out, its frightening, I used to have it on cheat days then did this myself, now I never touch it! Diet at best or a certain cola known as MAX!

try using sugar substitutes. I use honey for tea in the morning, green tea in the afternoon. If you need a sugar fix have a piece of fruit. Most people here will shout "HI G.I." or shun honey for the bit of sugar it has but for the intial stages of a cutting diet its fine. Just focus on complex carbs, good diet habits, cardio and lifting - you'll be fine.

There is a place in everybody's diet for SOME sugars. If you don't have much time to let your pre-workout meal set in your stomach for a good 60 min, then I would suggest some quick digesting carbs, or sugars. Sugars are also very important in the growth and repair process of muscles. Sugars contained in postworkout meals are helpful to replenish glycongen sources and work much better than low-GI carbs. After an intense workout, there is a very low possibility that these sugars will be stored as fat. After an intense workout your body is much more efficient at processing sugars, because it needs them for important anabolic processes. During my cut, I rarely eat sugars outside of my pre/post workout meals. There is no need for them. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.

Glad you found out about stevia. I have it in my whey shakes instead of any artificial sweeteners.
It's pretty hard to not eat any sugar, even in whole wheat bread or something, there's still a little bit of sugar. But as long as it's not a lot you're ok.

i was gonna say the same thing-i wear a size 3 and im 130 and 5'2! i guess it depends on your bone structure, but i look like a freaky crackhead at anything less than 115 lbs, and im 2 inches shorter than you.
i wouldnt stay too focused on a specific number like 100-when you work out, you will see that adding on muscle makes you look better at a higher weight-you may find you like yourself just fine at 115 or so.

No, Not Scrawny, Sorry!
I've been 100 lbs. before and loved it.
Maybe it will look scrawny on girls without a rear-end, a flat chest, and who don't work out..but, only starve themselves.
My ethnicity and genetics keep me from "looking scrawny."
Personally, I prefer a somewhat supermodel type of body, however, very toned, with added muscle. I like a tiny frame...I'm not into being 130 pounds..EVER! Whether, it means, it's all 130 pounds of muscle or not..it's WAY too big for me. Maybe, if I were 5'10"--but I'm not. I do not want to feel Heavy..or look Stocky..or short & dumpy..at that weight, I will. In addition to that, it pushes me into clothing that's a few sizes bigger. That weight is about a size 7-9..I take it. I have no interest in being a size 9. I'm a 2, 4....113 lbs. now, and will be a solid 2 shortly. Not interested in being a size zero..just a solid 2! I know exactly what I want and how I want to look just like the guys on here who are trying to get at the top of their game..[as lean as possible, as big, as muscular, etc.& doing everything they can to get it.] They know exactly what they want...as, do I.
I feel, people/women's preferences in body type are different, in different parts of the country. I'm in Los Angeles...in the Entertainment industry...so, U can only IMAGINE how it is here. LOOKS, body,THIN, HOT...is pretty much what it's about. 130 pounds??? U may be considered FAT out here...or simply, too big. Toooo muscular...& the industry looks at U like U're a "Freak Show." U will not get work. But, being small, extremely fit n' toned with a kick ass Hot body...works! And, it works well, out here. Just look thru' "Stuff & Maxim"... U'll get the message!
[Brooke Burke, Heidi Klum, Carmen Electra, Vivica Fox, Pam, Demi, Jessica Alba, Playboy Playmates...All the Victoria's Secret chicks, etc.] They're on every "HOT" list in America. None, are very muscular...but, all considered very hot!
However, I notice when I travel to other cities...everybody's huge...and it's the norm. 150-180 pounds and possibly more seem to be most women's weight and what everyone is used to seeing. If U're slightly under that...they think U are too skinny. And, many guys in those areas like Bigger girls. That's what they're used to & that's all they see..therefore, what they are attracted to.
I can respect the discipline and training, etc. of female Body Builders... I love the shows and always love seeing them perform. I don't have any negative feelings or opinions of them.. it's just simply not my look.
So, to each his own!
Take care everybody!

stevia is a non-caloric sweetener. just b/c its natural does not make it good.
in fact, it has been tested less than splenda and other artificial sweeteners.
Regular sugar (evaporated cane juice is just sugar) is fine as long as it fits into your calories.
also, 100 lbs w. some muscle mass is an unrealistic goal. If you're approaching a size 2 NOW at your weight...

PLUSSSSS HoneyBunch~
I was just at another section and ran across your posting Justagirl...
Saw your pic....
I'm not trying to be mean....but, U shouldn't be commenting.
I prefer to take advice from the girls who compete...or, at least look like they do.
Your body's average...No, U're not fat...U're not thin, either.
There's really no shape to it.
It's not cut, ripped, in shape & there are no abs...U don't really look like U work out...and to me, honestly...there's nothing HOT about it...other than the belly ring deal.
U have a long way to go....
But, I don't know where U're trying to go...and maybe that looks fine to U.
And, it really is YOUR body.
But..U blasted on me...so, U opened yourself up to MY critique......ANNNDD
you had nerve to post a PICTURE....come on!
I'm a female, we're very critical...and this is in MY opinion.
Smooches~

You're ugly. And "U" is not a substitute for the word "you." Which also makes you lazy, and/or stupid.

I'm NOT 5'6" Babes!
*please pay closer attention to what's written.
Anyhoooo...I'm not here to go back & forth with arguing...it's a waste, energy draining...& doesn't accomplish anything.
We're here..[at least I am] to motivate, inspire and assist each other.
I would like to get as much info, help and receive as many tips as possible.
So, sorry "Justagirl" if I hurt your feelings...
wasn't my initial intentions.
but, my very first message with asking for help...ALL of the females who responded had something Whack assed to say.
And, I didn't say a Thing to them!
I'm not a kid...I'm 39...so, I really wasn't here for the craziness.
But, it kinda' went there for a second or 2.
So, my apologies..
I do welcome all info and tips someone has~
Much success to everyone...
Take care.

it was never 'back and forth', it was me saying that your goal to look defined and fit probably wouldn't be accomplished by making yourself underweight. then you got catty (oh, sorry, 'critical'), defensive and completely overreacted. you're condescending and rude, and i didn't do squat to instigate it
do you think any of those celebrites you listed are 100lbs? i sincerely doubt it. they're not muscular, but they all have curves. do you think you can get 'added muscle' and keep your t&a by making yousrelf underweight? i sincerely doubt it. i never said anything about YOU, i was trying to show you that your physical goals and weight goals don't seem to match up. if you liked how you looked at 100lbs, cool, i'm not forcing you to give it up

Thanks for making me laugh..ok I'll give u some attention.
Well, Swivel..
Seeing that U've called someone Ugly with whom U've NEVER seen is absolutely phenomenal.
I've not posted a headshot...U haven't seen my face..yet, U call me ugly??
Hmmm, either U're an incompetent psychic or
something's just simply wrong with U.
Or, U're just an angry lil' person...lashing out 4 whatever reason!
Well, in response to your other comment..usually, I write a lot...so, using "U" "2" & "4" is just a way to cut down on some of it.
U come across like a 6 year old IDIOT...with Attention Deficit Disorder mixed in with a little Tourette's Syndrome.
U had NO idea what was going on... so keep your Chimpanzee comments to yourself!
U're ridiculously unimportant to me!
p.s. [don't bother with a response...it'll be sooo very ignored.--plus, I'm out, I need to be at the gym instead of wasting time with the back n' forth.]
Later Schnook 'ems!

Smooches~

Wow, you come in here, ask for advice, and immediately start to tear people apart? Grow up. You're supposed to be 39 -- or so you say -- so at least PRETEND to act like it.
Honestly, you want to be 100lbs at 5'4" and be "ripped"??? Sorry, won't happen. You get down to 100lbs and you won't have any muscle. You start working out and lifting weights to get "ripped" and "cut" then you're going to notice the scale pointing to something higher. It's a fact - you put on muscle, and that muscle mass will weigh more than fat, so even if you cut down to a very low % of bf, you're going to be adding mass if you're lifting weights to get "ripped" and therefore you will find that you weigh more.
I was "ripped" and had very low bodyfat, and I weighed 135lbs. Expecting to weigh 100lbs and be "ripped" is unrealistic and unhealthy.

Fish, I'm suprised you didn't catch the Ashley vibe from this one. If it isn't her I swear it is her knockoff
To the original poster, don't come in here and ask for advice and then start to be rude. Otherwise nobody will want to help you get 'ripped' :P

Believe me, I did catch that vibe. It's been reported.
