Am i getting enough calories???

Hey everyone, i just recently started reading these forums and have already learned a lot of valuable information.

First of all, a little about me: Im 20 y/o, 143 lbs as of this morning and 5 ft 8 inches. About the same time last year i was 168 lbs and kinda fat now that i look back on it. I lost the 25 lbs gradually through working out and some cardio, and managed to keep it off through my frst year in college (much harder than it sounds). However, even now i still have a pretty big layer of fat covering my stomach and chest, which i obviously wanna get rid of.

Just a few days ago i started keeping a fitday log: http://www.fitday.com/WebFit/PublicJ...ner=liquid6908 and have been working out pretty hard (5 days a week) for the past couple of months. I wanna make this summer the time where i finally get in great shape, have toned muscles and a nice set of abs etc.

If you check out my fitday page, you will see that ive been consuming about 1700 calories a day, with something around a 40p/40c/20f split. Assuming that fitday isnt overestimating calories burned per day, im burning around 3000 cals a day.

SO my question is this: am i getting enough calories to be able to burn those last couple pounds of fat while still keeping some of my muscles until i feel like i look good enough to start bulking? I mean, i get approximately 170-180 g of protein per day, so it seems liek it should be enough to me, but im not as knowledgable as some of you here. Plus, i really dont wanna lose any more weight, because 143 is pretty little already imo. I would love to keep burning the fat and replacing it with muscle and stay at this weight.

So i would appreciate if some of you took a look at my fitday logs and gave me some tips on what im doing right, what im doing wrong, etc. Thanks a lot and i appreciate any replies!

PS: Maybe later today i'll take some pictures and put them up so you guys can see exactly what im trying to work on. Thanks again!

Are you a man or a woman?? 1700 calories is too little for a man or a woman who stands at 5'8!!

Definately too large of a calorie defecit. If you want to preserve muscle, with a slight chance of gaining muscle (very hard to do) while cutting then your calorie defecit needs to be a lot less, something like -500, or even less. If you hit the weights extremely hard, and get enough protein keeping your intake at about -500 calories it will be possible for you to lose the fat while at least maintaining the muscle.
