New Super Mario Bros - Nintendo DS

It comes out on the 16th, I managed to get a leaked copy on monday and I beat it. Just thought Id share my opinion on the game for those who are thinking about buying it.

Pretty much expect Super Mario 64 combined with Super Mario World. I dunno if its because Im older, or have so much gaming experience with mario games, but I found this one to be really easy. It could be Im just good at it from years of playing all the Mario games, but it also could be Nintendo catering to the younger audience.

There are 8 worlds, 2 of which are "secret". Those would be worlds 4 and 7. If you dont do a special trick, which I will post below with a warning for spoilers, you dont get to those worlds.

It is psuedo 3d characters on a 2d side scrolling canvas. You have all the jumps from mario 64, like the triple jump and butt stomp. There are no flying items Ive seen. The 3 new powers are a mini mushroom to go to tiny size, a giant mushroom to grow huge, and a blue turtle shell that you wear. There is the usual fireflower and regular power up mushroom also.

I feel the game was a bit short. I beat it in 1 day without going through worlds 4 and 7, and have just now beaten world 4 in little time.

One of my personal favorite parts is the fact the boss of the first castle is bowser just like in the original mario. Same scenerio where hes on a bridge and u can either beat him with fire or drop the bridge. HE ACTUALLY DIES in the first level and your chasing baby bowser the whole way through the game as he carries the princess behind him. Thats right, BOWSER IS DEAD, he gets burnt to a skeleton.




But fear not bowser fans, he comes back at the final castle. Baby bowser throws his bones into a pot of purple stuff and he comes back to life where you fight both of them.

For those of you who want to play as Luigi, simply hold L and R as you select ur save game file. Besides the look he plays exactly like Mario. This dissapoints me as I always liked his higher, slower, jumps since Mario 2.

I give the game a 9 out of 10. I loved it. If it was longer, had Yoshi, and something like the cape from mario world, it would have been a 10 out 10 in my book. They did Mario justice, and havent let us down though. Pick it up on the 16th! I know I will to simply support what I feel could be a great game series for the DS. Just as it was long ago

DS, blah...how about that new SM game that debuted at E3, it's going to be a launch title for nintendo's wi...i can't wait.

I still think the PS3 will crush both of 'em, but right now I own a 360 and plan on getting both the Wie and PS3's when they come out.

I'm probably going to end up trading in my 360 though. I want Wei for games like SM, SM Kart, Megaman etc, and the ps3 for everything else.

The only system Im actually looking foward to is the Wii, simply because I barely use my Xbox and while I extensively use my PS2, I cant afford 600 bucks for a system and 60 - 70 per game. Not to mention with tax the system itself is gonna be 636...
