Intensity or anger outside the gym

Please forgive me if this is in the wrong section. I really didn't know where it would fit best, and quite frankly, I value the opinions of this section the most....

Does anybody else have a problem leaving their intensity or anger in the gym?

Sometimes I get so angry and intense in the gym. While working out (lifting and cardio) I try to picture all the negative people/things in my life..and use it for motivation...This usually works great, although sometimes too well. The problem I have is after I get home...It takes me a long time to calm down, and come back to my normal good natured self. Usually after a few hours of being pissed off at the world, I'll be back to normal. Until then however, I don't want to talk to anybody, or anything. Sometimes I scare myself at how angry I am. And NO, it's not "ROID RAGE". lol

So, does anybody else go through this?

No...

*backs away from the angry person*

Can't you think of something else to motivate you? I usually sit and watch the cardio bunnies for a few seconds whenever I start feeling a little unmotivated.

thats really bizarre...

Exercise has the complete opposite effect on me.
Usually If I am mad at something before going to the gym, I am in a much better mood when i come out..

I think the problem is that you are trying to think about negative things... Once your mind gets into this cycle it is hard to break.

Instead of negative images, try think of some positive images that get you pumped up as well, like how you will look, or the thought of breaking a PR or something similar..

Try to find lifequests thread about goal sheets if you can.. He talks about the importance of thinking positive.

Yeah, I'm much to happy seeing how much wider I am than almost everyone else to get angry.

I do admit I have used anger to power a kick ass lifting session. I am to busy watching the cardio bunnies when I am on the tredmill to get angry lol.

If you're leaving the gym intense and angry, then you haven't lifted enough. Keep lifting until you don't have the energy to be angry.

if you have problems with random anger (which means you prob get randomly depressed too), then your hormones are probably all wacky. take a break, I would bump up the cals a little and especially fats and cholesterol(!).

Some people just perform best angry. I don't try and get crazy pumped for the gym but in athletic sports competitions I literally spend a good 20-30 mins or so before the game looking for reasons to be angry. When I do this my stats drastically go up. Yea, I too have a problem leaving my pent up emotions on the field.

Weird. I'm happy to just bop around the gym in my own little world, listening to my ipod.

I focus hard when it's time to do a set, but between sets I let my mind drift freely...I don't really feel it neccessary to get myself fired up, except if I'm doing a very heavy set for very few reps. And even then, I visualize moving the weight, I increase the volume of air exchange (sort of a brief hyperventilation), I force myself to "know" that it's no problem to move this weight.

To me, anger would just be a distraction, and if I failed to achieve the complete set (which is actually a good thing), my anger would probably spill over and ruin my mood.

Anger is a pretty strong emotion, so I can see it being helpful in lifting. Just be sure to use it wisely, and safely and all is good.

For myself, I listen to angry music and that usually gets me fired up.
