Shah of Iran's Heir Plans Overthrow of Regime
Posted May 01, 2006
Reza Pahlavi, son of the late Shah of Iran, told the editors of HUMAN EVENTS last week that in the next two to three months he hopes to finalize the organization of a movement aimed at overthrowing the Islamic regime in Tehran and replacing it with a democratic government.
He believes the cause is urgent because of the prospect that Iran may soon develop a nuclear weapon or the U.S. may use military force to preempt that. He hopes to offer a way out of this dilemma: a revolution sparked by massive civil disobedience in which the masses in the streets are backed by elements of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.
Pahlavi, who lives in exile in the United States, said he has been in contact with elements of the Revolutionary Guard that would be willing to play such a role, and activists who could help spark the civil disobedience.
He also said that the U.S. and other governments can help by imposing “smart sanctions” on the leaders of Iranian regime, but he categorically opposes U.S. military intervention.
After the revolution he envisions, Pahlavi said, he would be willing to become a constitutional monarch in Iran if an Iranian constitutional convention offered him that role. “I’m ready to serve in that capacity,” he said. “If the people so choose, it would be my greatest honor.”
The following are excerpts from the interview with the editors of HUMAN EVENTS in which Pahlavi explained why and how he thinks his country can be transformed from an Islamist dictatorship into a free democracy.

Next 3 months he claims the start.

Hahahah, this guy has been planning this for 27 years...he is all talk.
It'd be great though, if would be able to get rid of the corrupt-mullah regime. Doubtful though.

Hmmmm, I don't know how this guy thinks it's going to pan out.
The Iranian people were so fed up with the Shah that they revolted against him in '79... I wonder why he expects them to oblige the Palahvi dynasty again, after decades of resentment.
And it's hardly a "democracy", if it's anything like the old Monarchy. It would be a puppet regime of the US, opposed to any real form of liberal democracy.
But who knows, it may or may not be better than what they have now... I just don't see it happening.

true dat
so many people have been talking of overthrowing this regime, but they're all just talk.
I wouldn't mind a theocracy. However, true muslim leaders are required to rule, NOT these fake mullahs.

Why? Is it because Reza would be little more than a puuppet of the US, or because Iran is supposedly an "Islamic state"?

Thats true a Pahlavi Dynasty rule is not necessarily a good one.
You know alot, very commendable. Most non-Iranians have no idea of any of that stuff with the former shah.

Just saw this on CNN. A poll conducted on Americans between 18-24, revealed that 6 out of 10 Americans could not identify Iran on a map. Also, 9 out of 10 could not find Afghanistan on a map.
In his book "The Persian Puzzle", Kenneth Pollack (14 year CIA veteran) acknowledges that most Americans don't know **** about Iran, or the history of US-Iran relations.

Well... Kind of hard not to get a bloated head sometimes.
I constantly have to give myself reality checks. I remind myself that just because I'm not as stupid as some people, doesn't mean my **** don't stink.

Most Americans don't know anything about Iran because we've been holding sanctions against them since the early 1980s. So the 18-24 group would probably know little about Iran because there is little to no information about them thats available in mass consumption. There is plenty if you do digging but most people would rather watch American Idol and Desperate Housewives.

Yes I have been trying.
But there are still alot of people, who keep thinking Iran is like other arab countries, with very strict laws, religious and no freedom for people
I guess that's what CNN and FOX need to tell people, to get them ready to "liberate" the Iranians
