Musclemag staff VS GNC/other staff
ive got the best advice from MuscleMag staff, and the worst from stores like GNC.
i went into musclemag for the first time when i was 16 or 15 or so, and i didnt know anything, i just thought "supplements make me big" so i asked for something to make me grow. the guy gave me the following advice:
- BUY NOTHING. he said dont buy any supplements, just take my time im still young have lots of time, learn how to eat and train, and if anything buy a book. it may not seem like a good sales tactic, but guess what, now i have so many clothes from that store, like musclemag hats, t shirts, wicked wear training gear, ive bought books and tapes from there, and protein bars, im a member and i get discounts every once in a while.
the managers at GNC or another crappy storeS would have probobly fired the guy for not making a sale, but i dont buy SH!T from the pushy staff at GNC and stores like that, they usually dont know anything, and if they do, they try to use their knowledge just to manipulate you into buying what u dont need.
the staff at every musclemag ive been to, i must say is more respectable (in terms of knowing the product) than staff at other stores. it seems they are picked more carefully than at other stores. ive seen bodybuilders working at musclemag, and ive talked to them, they know their stuff, they arent pushy, they never tried to sell me some crap i dont need, and i even have friends there. (ok maybe not EVERY musclemag location is this ideal, but everyone i have been to around my area is).
another store thats really not bad is SND. the staff isnt always as great as in the musclemag stores ive been to, but they arent so pushy like GNC staff. the prices for supplements are usually better, so i buy supplements from SND, and from musclemag i buy clothes, books, videos, and stuff like that.
what are everybodies thoughts on the staff at their local supplement stores? do you find them pushy? do u find that they know their stuff? any other comments?

dude, i know what you mean about GNC clerks not knowing squat. they might have a few tips for healthy living but nothing usable for a bodybuilder. my supplement store back in the States was one of those mom and pop type stores that had top stuff for awesome prices. i miss that store right now being overseas. i had become friends with the owner and his cashier who was an amatuer bodybuilder. this was one of those stores where you could go into and chat with these guys about anything. they knew their stuff too.

those kind of stores rock. unlike GNC, i went in asking for a certain product kuz i couldnt find it on the shelf, then she said "ummm, no sorry we dont have it" just kuz she didnt even know what it is. then i found it, wth.
another thing that pisses me off about GNC staff, is that when u ask a question about a product, they pick it up and start reading the nutrion info from it and stuff, so they are actually learning about it at the same time as telling u about it. im standing there thinking "great u can read a label, but can u do something i cant? do u know something i dont?"

I work at a Max Muscle...I can't speak for every Max Muscle cuz I know their are some out there that are dishonest and don't do what's in the best interest of their customers. But I try my hardest to stay up to date on all the newest products and who they are appropriate for. I'm a certified trainer as well as in the process of getting my nutrition certification. Not cuz I have to cuz I want to. If you ever come into my store in Arizona and I'm working I can pretty much guarentee a good experience. I work in Mesa right now, and am waiting for my store in Chandler to open.

We need more of this on the boards. A little constructive criticism, and things get fixed. Thanks for changing that, makes it much easier to read.
