heres a moral/ethics question

heres an interesting question

scenario:
you are a cop responding to a call of a burning apartment building, you are the first one to the scene, you get thier to find its your own apartment complex, thier are 3 people in the building but in 2 different rooms yelling for your help, from one window thier is a mother and her 2 yearold son yeling out the window for you to help them, and from another window, is your dearly and beloved wife also yelling for your help, you have the option of saving the mother and her son but leaving your wife to death, or you could save your wife and leave the mother and son to burn to death. but thier is a twist, your wife was diagnosed with a disease and she has about 8 weeks to live. who would you save and why?

edit: thier is no right or wrong answer this is just a question to see what you would do

edit: dont read other peoples opinions before you post yours i would like to see what you have to say based on your beliefs, not the people who had posted here

Even if my wife didn't have a disease I'd save the mother and son first, if of course there was a 100% they'll live healthy

Well, a utilitarian would save the mother and child because it provides the greatest benefit to the maximum number of people. So, in theory I'm a utilitarian but in real life, I'd save my wife.

then he brought up this scenario: 3 weeks later they complete an autopsie on your wife, the doctor announces to you that they mis diagnosed your wife and she was going to live after all, so now you have to live with that grim reality, 25 years later you finally learned the boys name who you saved... jeffrey dahmer.(he's a real person, feel free to look him up) so now you have to live with the fact that you let your wife die suffering and you allowed one of the sickest individules in the world live, feel good about your decision now?

then my dad said: i would save my wife i have mad a promise to her that i would love cherish and protect her, i didnt promise anything to the wife and kid, i dont owe them anything, i feel sorry for them but thiers no rule that says i have to save them.
