What Do You Think of David Meltzer?
I think he is biased or atleast in some form against WWE, esp. after Vince criticizing him cuz he was critizing WWE so bad during the steroid case years ago.
I read he only gave 5(or was it 6) matches 5 stars... and the last from WWE was Taker vs. Bret... And he gave 5 stars lately to 2 of Samoa Joe's matches(correct me if Im wrong)...
I mean I admit, I dont watch TNA but I get to see a match rarely and saw SJ wrestle. He is good, but not Angle or Benoit good/entertaining. Yet he never gave Angle matches 5 stars, esp. the one against Brock, or HHH MATCHES(take your pick)! Hell, even the Rock vs. Austin shown some sort of good wrestling + entertainment.
I think he(David) is overrated, and praised more than he should be.

I listen to his radio show. I wouldn't spend my money on his newsletter though.

I just download the podcasts. If you have messenger, I could transfer the last 3 shows to you.

He's the man of the internet wrestling scene, and the Wrestling Observer is easily the best wrestling publication of all time. Very knowledgable and pleasant. I think he genuinely loves the wrestling business and that's cool with me.
I also think without him there would be no insider websites for any columnists to write for.

I think the guy is a joke and his job is a joke. I think I have vastly superior wrestling knowledge compared to this guy.

Anybody who pays for wrestling news and rumours is a joke in my opinion. Wrestling is only a show after all, how about you just watch and enjoy it.

In fairness though he didn't even come on to the internet scene until years later, long after people like Bob Ryder, Dave Scherer, etc had made their names. Even to this day he has never been much of an internet person.
As for the guy himself, well nobody here knows him personally. What can be said is this.
He started a newsletter in the early 80's at a time when breaking kayfabe was a big no, no. He took his shots in the beginning, and still does to this day by guys who are still stuck in the stone ages like Ole Anderson, but in the years since he first printed his first story the following has happened.
He has made connections throughout the wrestling world, even helping to briefly work for the WWF.
This is a guy who actually does have sources in the community such as Jim Ross, and has even made friendships with quite a few people. Bret Hart, The Guerreros, etc. Ric Flair probably being his closest ally.
He's become VERY wealthy not just from his newsletter, but all the books he has written, and his radio show.
I've always found him to be very knowledgable, and fair in his reporting. I've seen him defend to the death HHH when everyone would expect him to do the opposite.
I think people who don't like him or atleast respect him are doing so because a) they are misinformed or b) they are outright jealous of the guy.
Lets face it he is at a spot where a lot of people would like to be.
More importantly he has been the biggest Kurt Angle fan boy since the guy first strapped on a pair of boots (turning many of his readers against him when he voted Angle into the observer hall of fame when many thought it was far too soon) and that is ok by me, as well, Angle is my lord and savior.

Welcome back Lion Heart/jrs1979/devl/EliteLifts/KAIT. Glad to see you back. Hopefully we can get along better on this forum now. You're a real asset (now we just need Elway and Dun Sci back).
