Bottom line is that human metabolism is ultimately not that different when it comes to losing fat for men and women, it really comes down to resting metabolism being a factor of lean mass, fat mass, thyroid, endocrine, and adrenal systems. Increasing resting metabolism is the goal. This is achieved by eating properly and working out properly. Don't eat food you have a problem with. Focus on lean protein, then grains, then good fats, then vegetables, then fruits. Find out what works for you. What works for you will probably work well for your brother, but will not work well for another woman who is genetically diverse from you. The best thermogenic is REDZONE CAPSULES from LMR Sports, available at bodybuilding.com -Ian

Question A Couple of Questions about Your Advice

What is the 9 day diet? What's it's purpose - cutting or bulking? What does it look like?

And you say to focus on lean proteins, then grain, then good fat, then vegetables and then fruit. I'm still learning and the idea of grain with lots of carbs, then fat before vegetables and fruit doesn't make sense to me. Does this mean that most of my diet should be lean protein, then grains should be the next largest portion of my diet, then fat, then vegetables and then fruits. So for carbs I need to stick to grains as much as possible? Don't I need the vitamins in fruits and veggies?

Forgive my ignorance here - only been weight training for a few months.

It's a cutting diet that built up a little following on the FAP board. I actually recommend a shorter duration these days for the diet because I think most people will get way too depleted after 9 days. I have an article on bodybuilding.com at http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/ian2new.htm that you can check out to see the specifics.
