Cottage Cheese with Pineapple
I've tried searching on this in the forums but couldn't find an answer to this (besides confirming lots of people eat it)
A few years ago, a guy at work who was heavily into BBing used to eat Cottage Cheese with Pineapple religiously.
Years later, now that I'm into this stuff, I find myself eating 500gms of CC a day. I don't mind it on its own, depending on the brand. Some of them make your back teeth stick together in a starchy kind of way (though I'm not sure what causes this).
My question is though, what is the theory behind the added pineapple?
Is it for taste?
He tells me that it makes the body absorb the protein better. Is there any truth to this?

Yeah there is...
Bromelain refers to a group of sulfur-containing enzymes from the pineapple plant which help in the digestion of protein. That is the stuff man

The benefit of adding pineapple would come from its macro- & micronutritive value. Good ole' anti-cancer, pro-immunity nutrition in pineapples. HOWEVER, the buck stops there for the most part. The idea that taking it with cottage cheese is gonna aid in absorption of the co-ingested protein only applies to people with clinically diagnosed pancreatic insufficiency or major gastrectomy. Otherwise, the hydrochloric acid and pepsinogens in the lumen of your stomach are perfectly capable of breaking all proteins down.

They sell premixed pineapple/CC here in little single-serving cups (like yogurt). It's definitely NOT 50/50. More like 80/20. Too much pineapple would not be a good thing - very high in sugar, kinda kills the long-lasting fullness you get from the high-protien of CC.
Just my .02. Hope it's helpful.

Thanks for the xlation. So we're saying on the most part, it gives you some nutritive value, but mostly it'll aid the taste (unless I've got diagnosed pancreatic insufficiency which I doubt I have).
Worst case is, it makes the CC a little more enjoyable, and anti-cancer 'stuff'.
*off to try it finally now that I've bought the darn stuff*

A few other options that work for me, since I can't stand the taste of cottage cheese on it's own...
Cottage Cheese with some Splenda mixed in
Cottage Cheese with blueberries

I agree...I can't stand the taste ofd Cottage CHeese on its own...
I use many different types of frozen berries. One of my favorites is frozen cherries. when buying frozen fruits, be sure to read the ingredients...many add sugars and syrups.
Another favorite is Blueberries and raspberries. I also add a half scoop of chocolate cassien or egg protien in the cottage cheese and berries.
