Uhockey Reviews Avant Labs SuperCarb

First, thanks to Caleb (by way of Shawn) for sending this out. Feels kinda odd getting 1 kilo of while powder in a plastic bag in the mail.....but it tastes sweet so I'll assume it's not yayo. If the feds show up at my door I'm gonna be pissed. Anyhow....

Mixability: 10/10 Since my 4th meal of the day entails 30g of carbohydrates in addition to 42g protein and 25g of fat and is normally an oats/peanuts/substance WPI shake I figured I'd give it a go here. Added the supercarb in place of oats, 30g measured on a digital scale, and added water to assess mixability. Mixed flawless, none came out of solution. I took a small sip to check taste alone and then added the Substance (grape) and peanuts to the shaker and shook my standard 45-60 seconds. Obviously the peanuts don't dissolve, but everything else did fine.

Taste: 9/10 I honestly don't think I've tasted "regular" table sugar in years and aside from a 1 week stint when I gave dextrose a go, Splenda and Equal are my sweeteners of choice 99.99% fo the time. Supercarb tastes nothing like these other products. I believe someone said it's 1/2 as sweet as sucrose and I'd say that's a fair assessment. Not disgustingly overpowering like dextrose and no aftertaste like nutrasweet. Even if it were zero cal I wouldn't replace sucralose with supercarb, but for a low-GI 4cal/g carb it is pretty damned good. As we all know, I LOVE Substance Grape, but I can honestly say with Supercarb it may taste even better. I wish I had some Vanilla Bean on hand since my biggest complaint is that it's not sweet enough......I bet Supercarb+VanillaBean would be like French Vanilla Icecream. When I have the time I'm absolutely digging out the icecream maker and giving this idea a go. Any idea on freezing point mechanics for supercarb?

Satiety: 7/10 This is key for me. Meal 4 is generally my last of the day at school/clinic/whatever, when I get home I have a big meal of fibrous veggies, protein, and fats, but this one has to hold me through till then. Meal 2 is similar but generally follows my workout and contains more carbs. I can honest say Supercarb suprised me here, holding me over pretty well until my next meal 3 hours later. If veggies are a 10/10 in satiety and oats are 8/10, I'd give this product a solid 7.

GI issues: 7/10 Something about this product doesn't settle quite as well as Oats or other complex carbs, but it also doesn't make me queasy like dextrose. No cramping, but distinct hyperactive bowel sounds followed consumption by about 45 minutes and lasted for about an hour. No more "bloating" per se than oats or Ezekiel bread, however. Doesn't appear that it had any positive or negative effects on my bowel patterns either.

Since I'm beginning a low-carb cut tomorrow, this product will likely sit on my shelf for the next few weeks, but I definitely believe it to be a solid choice depending on price. When surgery comes along and many of my meals will require extreme portability I definitely see supercarb becoming an important aspect of my diet. Please feel free to ask any questions. If I like you, I'll answer.

Very good review Mike. One question did you get any type of insulin spike after this? I remember along time ago when I used dextrose i would get tired as hell afterwards. I know supercarb is low GI , but so is a snickers bar.
Thanks

Snickers is low GI secondary to it's fats and protein, supercarb is supposedly biochemically low GI. Since no one knows exactly what the hell it is, I can't be sure, but I did not feel any peak or trough effect in terms of blood sugar, and I took the shake with my normal supps (including GXR) without going hypo.

Thanks Mike ya this is one thing I am concerned about as my carbs are pretty much the same as yours oats, Ezkiel, veggies . Convinence it seems to be a great addition in your situation coming up. For me between classes at school it would also be easy. I could take some GXR I suppose with it if it did become a problem with my blood sugar levels.
Thanks

Nice review uhockey. I'm surprised that the satiety level of SuperCarb was so high. I agree that veggies/oats will fill you up, I didn't realize that this was pretty potent. Does it contain fiber? Have you taken this as a stand alone without the fats? Strictly SC and whey? I'm intrigued...

No fiber. And no, this review is based on my very first utilization. But bear in mind that my meals have been EXACTLY the same for 12 weeks (minus one meal out, fish and green beans). The meal it was consumed with has been the same for 84 days, I simply replaced the oats with supercarb and achieved nearly the same level of satiety.
