asthma and working out/running

im considerign joining a gym and all and jumping into working out cuz i think its about time...

one of the biggest problems ive run into (i run track) is my asthma. for anyone who has asthma, i take singulair during the fall/spring/summer and stop in the winter. and of course i have a rescue inhaler. basically im just looking for ways that other guys get rid of/reduce their asthma. after a while into the track season it alleviates, but i still always have a problem with it. i think its more mental that physical.

anyway, if any guys out there with asthma can tell me wat they do when they work out/run id really appreciate it.

btw - i have a mild/bad (not severe idk how else to put it) case of it, i was born with it so its not like sports induced to just occasional, but its not like if i walk a little too fast my face turns red and i go into a coma, its mostly when i do sports, but occasionally when its cold and of course when im sick.

im in the same boat you are. i play college soccer, ran track in HS, and have bad sport induced asmtha and/or when im sick.
i take singulair
advair ( its a purple disk )
flonase
and i have rescue med(albuterol inhaler) that i usually take a couple puffs before i work out (even tho with the other medicine, i shouldnt need it but i do it to be on the safe side)

i work out 5-6 times a week, and those medicines really help me and my asmtha disappears. talk to ur doc about advair, which can help, and def. flonase which will help ur allergies and with singulair it works good.

good luck

i use advair only when im really sick and need to get rid of the attacks for long term..but if ur saying it helps u long term then ill look into it. i also get chronic sinus infections/ headaches so i use flonase occasionally, like a month or two at a time, but then i stop it for a while. i dont like being on too many meds, esp for asthma cuz i try to help myself naturally.

it sucks cuz asthma is the only thing preventing my from becoming a great runner =\
