HMB Safety?
I have a question regarding the safety of HMB. I am fully aware of the amazing benefits of this metabolite of leucine. And as such I am aware that HMB dramatically increases protien sythesis in muscle tissue.
My concern is this: the heart is 100% muscle tissue, so will supplementing with HMB carry the risk of heart enlargement? (which is very bad, irreversible, and deadly). It is possible that HMB only works in conjunction with muslce-specific resistance training, but still the mechanism of protein anabolism associated with HMB may simply act on all striated muscle tissues. Does anyone here understand my concern and have the information to address my question?

Well, I only have a limited supply of HMB on hand, and am taking 2 grams post workout, but I bought 500 grams of leucine and adding 2 gram to my 3 other shakes daily, so in total im getting about 8 grams of HMB/Leucine daily taken with all my liquid meals.
Been doing that for about 2 weeks and so far so good, recovery seems improved. When I run out of HMB (maybe in 2 weeks), Im going to continue on with the 2grams per shake of Leucine for about 3 months, I figure this is something that needs time to prove its worth, and for 14 bucks for 500grams of leucine, Im willing to try it.

check out hmb.org or google hmb
i'm supplementing with hmb now, but i take in around 8-10gs a day sometimes i split it up into 1-2g servings always taking 2g morning/pre-bed.
i try to take it every 2-3hrs(half-life of hmb) between meals, and i always take it around 1-2hrs before my workout, because thats when hmb levels are at its highest, and i also take 1-2g after my after workout. hope this helps

True, I think its something that will only work for those who are really in touch with their bodies, whereas creatine would make anyone feel bigger and stronger, even if they didnt lift it has an immediate effect, whereas HMB (and Leucine im hoping) will silently work in the background over a longer period.
I know my first couple times around I was looking for creatine like impact, which let me down, this time Im using it in a long term application. Its still hella expensive though, which is why I went the leucine route, as there is studies backing it as well.

If your interested, i just finished my GACH log which contained HMB bonded to Glutamine, creatine, and arginine and really liked the recovery properties of it which im assuming is attributable to the HMB and possibly glutamine, but im leaning towards the HMB and Glut has never done anything for me. You cans skip the log and read the final post.

I see. Good in high dosages (10gr a day, etc). Buy bulk powder, so cheap this way. Only recommend it for people who are cutting or have high metabolisms EXCEPT for a high dose pre-workout.

Because it is anti-catabolic, not anabolic.
