Cauliflower ear surgery ,$3000
I talked to my doctor and because I dont have insurance I am charged $3000 to get my cauliflower ear drained. I dont really care how my ear looks but do you think its worth it? I mean ist christmas, and I can get myself something better for $3000 than a cauliflower ear drained. ANd the only con to this is that the lnoger I wait (according to doctor) the harder it is to restore my ear 100% on how it was before.

When the ear is still filled with blood... it doesn't look bad. Looks almost hardcore. But when the ear is drained and all you see is the dead cartilage and some deformed ear. Ew.

lol guys its not blood, its a waterish liquid thats collected in ur ear. And i would laugh if u pay 3 grand for that, my wrestling club coach just takes a srynge and drains ppls ears himself. Takes like 10 seconds.

better than paying 3 gs. Its not a big deal guys, when the cartalage in ur ear breaks, ur body creates fluid and fills it up in ur ear, this way ur ear stays up and isn't dropping down to its side (cuz it doesnt have the cartalage to hold it up)

yeah 3gs is alot, but u can risk alot doing it wit a same needle. i bet the wrestlers stand in line, then he goes from 1 guy to the next wit 1 syringe.

Can you get them removed
Why all this fuss with ears and cartilage? Just pay 3000 to get them removed instead. Then you won't have to worry about this problem any longer.

Can someone explain what ear cauliflower is?
I'm assuming your ear tendons get ripped and therefore can't stick to your face anymore so your body creaets a liquid to keep it in place?
Discuss.

I had it done two years ago.
I waited a couple of months before I had it done. It wasn't too severe, that's why I waited.
ANyways, the doc just took a needle and drained it. It wasn't blood, but a whitish/clear fluid. After that he stitched pieces of hard cotton on both sides of the ear so that the fluid would not re-accumulate. I had to have these pieces stitched on my ears for four weeks! It was so embarrassing and evertime I took a shower, I covered my ear in a sandwich bag! (LOL)
As was said earlier, if you wait it could get worse. I would also have the doc check out the drained fluid to make sure there's no bacterial infection.
Good luck.

ok listen up. I'm a college wrestler who's had to deal with and be around cauliflower ears most of my life.
cauliflower ear is simply when the skin on your ear seperates from the cartlidge. Its caused by numerous blows to the ear during practice. Its basically like a bruise. At first the ear fills with a white/clear fluid. Anyone with a clean new needle can drain it, don't go to the doc to have this done because you will probally be draining it the rest of the season$$$$. After the first few drains the fluid is slowly replaced by blood. If you don't clamp your ear or put some kind of cast on it after you drain it then it will repeadily fill back up. If you don't drain it at all then expect a permenant deformed ear in about 10 days. Only way to fix it at this point is surgery which again is alot of $$$$$.
