Talking To sauna or not to sauna

Does anyone know the pros and cons of using the sauna. The gym I go to has one and I love to sweat!! I do want to evetually do a figure comp so I don't want to be counteracting all that I have worked so hard for. Any info would be great!!

Thanks

Thumbs down

the only thing I don't like and the only reason that keeps me from using a sauna is opening the door and smelling the awful BO odor

Talking

LOL!! OK thats not very scientific. Now the sauna I will be using is on a small military reservation that you can hear crickets cherping so the only BO would be mine.

I dont know if its harmful - i dont think so. I like it because it gets my blood moving (I have poor circulation) and it makes my joints and muscles feel less achy

As long as you keep yourself well hydrated it is a good way to help promote blood flow and get your muscles recovering (especially when combined with stretching and other things).

It would only be a problem if you did not make sure you kept your water intake up to correct for the water you sweated out!

I love saunas...I don't think there is anything bad about them, unless it isnt clean.

I agree with Emma-Leigh - hydration is very important; I've found that after a hard workout, and I know that I'm going to be really sore, I sit in the sauna for a while. I generally end up not as sore as I normally would without going in. I assume it's because the increased circulation assists in recovery.
