Secrets of the Biggest Loser Revealed. Nothin New
I recently became interested in this show because it has large people on it that lose as much as 8, 10, 12 pounds per week which I thought was dangerous and possibly BS but apparently it is true.
Anyway I bought the book by the Female trainer of the group (Jillian MIchaels) and read it in about 45 minutes.
Are there any magic bullets it. No! The bottom line she says if you aren't working out balls to the wall 2 hrs per day you are wasting your time. In the case of the poor guys she was working with she was pushing them up to 5 hrs per day sometimes. THAT IS HER BIG SECRET
She does have a theory about Oxidation which I am still pondering. In it she tries to convince you that your genetics dictate the types of food you should be eating for optimum weight loss..It is pretty much a fat to carb to protein ratio test which you use to build your diet around in order to get maximum energy...At least I think that is what it says. I think I have read this theory before and it was called metabolic typing or something similar. This theory probably has some validity just from a common sense point of view but like the Atkins diet it is somthing that would be impossible to stick to for long periods of time...IMHO
She also shows you how to use your BMR to set up a diet and even shows you how to zigzag the calories in order to avoid plateaus. Sorry but I have to say Duh here.
As far as I am concerned it is just a collection of information that bodybuilders have used for many years..
Don't bother to buy it

There isn't too much original out there. I checked out a book the other day about lifting for hardgainers. It had the same exercises that Arnold's book has or any other lifting book. Even the nutrition info was the same.

You might be a powerlifter if people at gym tell you someone is looking very 'cut' and you think they had a terrible accident in the kitchen.

If you're not worried about losing muscle mass, have at it. Been there, done that. You can lose it fast, but I'll damned well guarantee you it all won't be fat!!! When I took off all of my weight, I was lifting for an hour, then biking for an hour. I lost a hell of a lot of weight, lost a hell of a lot of muscle too. Plus, I don't have 5 hours a day to lift, bike or do **** gobs of cardio. I limit it to 1.5 to 2 hours a day 5 days a week, sometimes I'll do 6-7 if I stall, but only on occasion. With those extra days I up my calories as well.

I love this show! Although you can see that many of the contestants are starving themselves on 1000-1200 cals a day then doing like you said 5 hours of cardio a day. This is why they never tell you the bf% loss because alot of the weight really is fat but they are lossing alot of muscle mass.
The last show of the season last year did show the bf loss and a few of the people lost 60+lbs and only lost 10-12 % bf. And their bf was still very high even though they "looked" healthy and thin.
But it is a good show and it really helps motivate me while i am cutting.

I enjoy the show also, although I would never buy Jillian's book anyway. She irritates the heck out of me. I am amazed when they show the progress these people have made once they are booted off. I'm surprised they keep losing weight after being starved and overtrained. Perhaps it's because they do teach them to weight train and do cardiovascular activity and aren't just starving them. I guess they're changing their mindset also. Anyway, I'd be interested in seeing how they're hanging a couple of years down the road. I hope they keep it off. They sure work their asses off on that show. The only other thing that irks me while watching the show is all the boo-hooing. I'm not big on all the sniffling. Unless of course, I'm doing it. Then I expect the utmost sympathy.

The guy who won it last year is in a Toyota commercial! He lost like 120 total lbs. But now a year later he has gained alot of weight. He looked awsome after the show but in the commercial he looked like he must have gained back a good 50 lbs.

I like watching the show although the emotional dramatics are a bit much. Mat is a big pussy.

LOL -- thanks, Dash. That made me smile as my son, Brian, and I are always saying stuff, then we say, "We need a t-shirt that says that!" Little B has a nice collection of funny/sarcastic t-shirts.
