Hmmm, let's rethink here

Please correct me if any of what I'm saying is wrong:

I see people advise "500 calories over maintenance. 3600 calories in a pound, and you'll gain a pound a week." But why? Aren't there only 600 calories in a pound of muscle? And since that's all protein, 600/4=150 grams of protein, or just 22 extra grams of protein a day. But it doesn't work out like that. Why?

The bottom line for maintenance depending on body type and activity level is 12-15 x number of pounds and cutting is 9-12. In most cases. 500 cals over maintenance is bulking. I see your point about 600, but nobody (other than noobs and a person on the gear) gains 1 lb of muscle/week. If we really did, many people would look like pros in 2-3 years. Do I think you can put on "weight" fast? Yes, but LMB is a different story.

Okay, so some people (with noob gains, of course) can gain a pound a week and have their bodyfat stay the same (this usually means about 25% of the gains is fat). So that's .75 pounds of LBM a week. Besides water weight, and added bone density, isn't nothing left but muscle?
