Eating before exercise!
Hi guys
I've read before that it is better not to eat directly before exercising, and to give it at least two hours..
And a couple of weeks ago I heared that if you wanna gain weight, then it would be better to eat directly before exercising.. And I wanna gain weight!
So, which is correct.. and why?
Thanks in advance
Mike

The most pointless poll ever, and there's been a ****-load of pointless polls.
No-one with half a brain cell works out on a full stomach or just after eating.

First post on this board and WiseMike isn't so wise...LOL, i made a funny. On another note, this poll is worthless, you dont even have good poll options. 2hrs? Come on now, where is the 45 min one or an 1hour or an 1hour and a half...BAH

According to the article that Ripstone put up (one I read) a shake 15-30 min before workout is ok.
Didn't think the person who typed up that article was only working with half a brain unless I'm not understanding something...

How about 3/4 of a brain cell?
You could still have a "full stomach" an hour after eating, but this has been reported by others to be the optimum length of time to wait before lifting. Hell now that I'm bulking I *always* feel like I'm full.

same here, im perpetually full, so it doesnt really affect me in the gym. I eat oats/eggs about 1hr prior. I dont do any running during my gym time, so i see no problem at all.

Since early morning is about the only time I get to work out, I eat while I'm warming up and doing my first warmup sets.
I guess I have less than 1/2 a brain cell, although I don't eat too much to get 'full', just enough to get me through the workout.

Due to my schedule, I workout as early as I possibly can so I don't have the "luxury" of sitting around for an hour before I start working out. I gotta get busy and get my day going, time is precious.
Anyways, usually about 20 minutes after eating I'm in the gym and my workouts are great... it doesn't affect me adversely at all.

Notice I said "...just after eating". I didn't say anything about a shake, I meant a proper meal.

I've discovered that working out on an empty stomach doesn't work well for me. I like to have a little padding in there before I hit the weights, because when I go on an empty stomach I get too hungry and low on energy near the end of my workout routine. So I eat just enough to sustain me for my workout. I usually have a bowl of Wheaties with a sliced up banana and some fat free milk an hour before I lift. Then I down some NO-Xplode and hit the weights. Works really well for me! Just thought I'd share.

Yeah, that's part of what you said. Your actual words were "No-one with half a brain cell works out on a full stomach or just after eating."
This to me leaves it open to shakes as well which is why I responded.
Not being a jerk, that's just how it read to me and to others as well.

The only prob with eating directly before workout is the threat of vomiting. If you can handle working out 15-30 minutes after a full meal then it may even be better...

I'm not being a jerk either, and this is a bit of a pointless argument, but a protein shake doesn't really give you a full stomach unless it's high calorie.

Pre weight training I need a pretty full stomach or my workouts are not as good.
Pre cardio, I prefer light foods about 1-2 hours beforehand. Find out what you respond to best.

I didn't find that any of the answers on the poll seemed correct so I didn't answer. I usually give myself a half hour of digestion before I go to the gym. I never eat then workout directly after, nor do I wait 2 hours cause in 2 hours I'm getting near the hungry mark again.

ok, how many people are drinking a low calorie pre-work out shake? Just about every pre-workout shake you see or read is pretty calorie dence from adding oats or something along those line.
Ya know, maybe I'm confused...but I'm just not following you.
and I can also just agree to disagree - no biggie.
