Need advice on a problem I get when jogging.
I used to get shin splints fairly bad, it seems I'm over that (dunno what I did) but now I have a new problem when jogging.
After running for 5-10 minutes, my legs start to throb. Specifically below my knees, my calves/shin feet feel like they're really full of blood and it starts to hurt if I continue jogging on them, so I have to stand on the rails of the treadmill and spend about 30 seconds shaking one leg then the other like a cat with a wet paw to get the blood flowing again.
Anyone else experience this at all? What's the solution? I was considering wrapping my legs up, I imagine that'd keep the blood from settling in my feet so bad... or it'd make my legs explode. Or is this a case of 'just bear with it and eventually your legs will compensate for it the more you jog.'?

Man I would see a doctor.
If that is happening often you may have a blod clot and the could be very dangerous. I would "NOT" try and mask it with a wrap and work through it.

Shin splints do go away with time. I've never had the issues you are describing however.
Are you wearing anything that can interfear with your circulation? Compression shorts, knee brace etc? Shoes on too tight?
I've run for about 10 years.

I do wear some fairly tight Nike SHOX when I jog. If I don't wear tight shoes my feet start to hurt after a while. I don't believe they're too tight though.
I should clarify a bit. At about 8-10 minutes it gets bad and I need to stop for a few seconds, then another 3-4 mintues, then another, but then it starts getting better, the last leg of my jogging session I can pretty much do 5-7 minutes straight.
I don't jog as often as I should and I've always had chronically low endurance, something I'm very slowly improving, so I'm hoping this problem will resolve itself over time. I wanted to see if this was a common thing for some people who were just getting started with jogging. (I'm not a noob, but I haven't built up my endurance so that I can jog for 30 minutes straight either)

It's the muscle tearing off the bone.

Shin splints are a pain. You can continue to execise without further irritating them but there is not much you can do to get rid of them, the just eventually subside.

I don't know how you can avoid it/treat it but running shoes are a good start for sure.

maybe your stomping too hard. When jogging, you shouldn't hear each foot step. practice jogging "softer" . Let your stride be a little bigger than heel to heel. See if that helps though i've never heard of the issue you describe.

Avoiding any impact type of cardio(i.e. running). You can still do the bike or the elliptical without pain. Also, for some reason running stairs doesn't hurt. It might be because I'm landing and pushing off the balls of my feet. When I jog the impact of landing on my heel seems to be what hurts the most.

Shinsplints: Ice before you run, and after you run. Back off if the pain is severe, you could be developing stress fractures.
For the circulation issue, try to loosen your shoes a tiny bit, and see if it makes a difference or not.

I've been told shin splints are often due to a muscle imbalance (calf too strong, tib anterior too weak). I used to get them pretty bad. I could barely walk. Tibialis Anterior exercises helped a bit, but I don't do the activities that hurt my shins as much anymore so I don't know if it solves the problem completely. Trying these can't hurt.
