My Sesathin Review - While Cutting + While Bulking

I decided to add to the many reviews of Avant Labs' much-talked-about Sesathin product, since I used it when I was cutting earlier this year, and now while I am bulking.

I cycled off it while maintaining for about a month or so. I realize this isn't neccessary, but I wanted to accurately compare the results to when it was being used.

Sesathin While Cutting

I was on a 500-calorie-deficit cut and used Sesathin for two months (i.e. two bottles) at the recommended dose of 1500 mg. (3 servings) daily. I cut down from about 12% to 8% bodyfat over at least four months, so I probably went from 10-11% to 8-9% in the last two when I used Sesathin, but these are approximations.

Dose: Recommended dose. 3 servings. 1500 mg. sesamin.

Fat loss: Good results. I definitely saw more definition in the abdominals, especially the 'surfer' (V-shaped) cuts around my lower abs which are usually a trouble spot for me even at sub-10% levels (which might just be genetically prone water retention). Anyway, I could see the fat loss accelerated to a reasonable extent, and felt the consequences of my weekly refeeds/cheats less than I am accustomed to.

Price: Average, not great. Maybe $10 less and I'd be a lot happier, but hey, it works and it's not over-the-top. At the full serving, I can see $30 or so per month adding up if this was used year-round.

Convenience: More convenient than you'd think, given that you need to shake the bottle, draw about 1.25 ml into a little oral syringe and squirt it into your mouth. Is it as easy as popping a cap? No, but it's not hard. And of course, it's advised to take it with meals with over 10 g. of fat, which was relatively easy for me, since 5 of my 8 daily meals when cutting contain 15+ g. of fat.

Taste: People complain about it; personally, I can barely taste it. Slight 'oily' taste is all I can say, really. To me it tastes like mild olive oil, which is pretty neutral on the good-bad scale.

Side Effects: Minimal. I didn't notice the loss in libido that some people do. Muscle flatness was apparent, but not too bad.

Would I use it again when cutting? Yes.

Going Off The Sesathin

Like I said, I went off the Sesathin for a month or so over summer, eating at approximately maintenance calories.

I put on maybe 1 lb. of weight in that month, which was probably fat, although I couldn't really see it. The reason was much more summer eating (lots of cheat meals, dates, going out every night...) than going off the Sesathin. I was hitting the clubs, drinking about every three or four days (I know, I'm terrible, but I like to live along with the bodybuilding) and the cut physique really helped my sex life out a lot, so I felt like the previous four months of near celibacy, hard dieting and grueling cardio were more than worth it. So yeah, the lack of Sesathin wasn't really the cause of the fat gain.

When off the Sesathin, I looked a little less flat around my muscles and held slightly more water. Surfer abs were still pronounced, however, which was good. I feel I bore the brunt of the cheat meals a little more than I might have when on the Sesathin, which really minimizes their effect on bodyfat.

Sesathin While Bulking

This is sort of an experiment-in-progress since I am still bulking with the Sesathin. I am eating about 1500 calories over maintenance (I know, it's a heavy bulk, but I respond best to these) over 8 meals daily, but all clean calories. The difference between my cutting diet and this is that carbs are increased to 500+ g. daily, and fat is increased to 150 g. or so. Protein is the same. I have already been on this diet for about 5 weeks now and bodyfat is at 9% or so. Without the Sesathin from the beginning, I have gained some fat along with lean mass.

I started the Sesathin a week ago.

Aim: To stay as lean as possible (i.e. below 10% bodyfat) while increasing lean mass.

Dose: Recommended. 3 servings. 1500 mg. sesamin. I realize it is recommended to decrease the dose to about 1-2 servings but I think at my bulking calories I will still gain lean weight at the full dose.

So far: Good results. Cuts around the abs are suddenly more pronounced. Jawline looks cut.



I'll update this exactly one week from now with more feedback+results on the Sesathin while bulking. If you really care, please remind me with a bump or something in case I forget to update. Spank you.

Good review...i'm currently bulking and using sesathin as well, it seems to be doing a very good job of keeping the fat off. It's just important to find that "magic" dose that will allow you to gain enough muscle but not gain fat. If you take too much, you won't gain a damn thing.

Haha, damn, sorry guys!! Thank you for bumping this.
Obviously the 1 week later business got shot to hell so here is the update exactly 2 months later.
(On the upside, this gave me a much better perspective on how the product worked than just a week would have)

Sesathin While Bulking (continued, and long overdue)

Have Used It For: 2 months

Dose: Recommend dose. 3 servings daily, or 1500 mg. sesamin.

Diet: Relatively heavy bulk. 1500 calories over maintenance, excess calories in the form of carbs and fat. (Protein is same as when cutting/maintaining.) Note that this is in no form a dirty bulk; all the calories are clean, excepting of course my 2 weekly cheat meals (on the same day).

Results: Definitely worked. I can say this with full confidence, since I have done heavy bulks before (I respond to these the best as compared to leaner, lighter bulks) and I've gained far more fat. I remained below 10% bodyfat, abs fully visible including my trouble-spot 'surfer cuts' (V-shaped lower ab area). I've put on about 9 pounds (note that some of this is water too -- as I step up the carbs I tend to hold a lot of water) in two months, and I'm still going with the bulk; I estimate only 1-2 pounds of this is fat, which is very good given how many calories I've been eating.

Side Effects: Flatness was much more noticeable than when I was cutting, so much so that I had to quit hitting up the partays with my poser short sleeved t-shirts. I say this because my arms in particular really lost a bit of their thick look from the front, even though I was putting on mass; I'm not sure how this came about since I was obviously holding more water during the bulk. My only theory about this is that when cutting I was lower on the carbs anyhow so my muscles were already 'flat' looking, whereas now that I was going high-carb, the flatness was much more visible to me. Whatever it is, it definitely wasn't all in my mind, it was very visible flatness.
On the positive side, no loss of libido or anything else people report.

Conclusion: The fact that I maintained my leanness and the beach body look has convinced me to keep the bulk up for another month; however, I am going to step up my cardio to 3 times weekly until mid-December, just because I want to amplify my leanness when I get back home for the holidays (I'm in college) and hit the beaches.

Final Thought: I'm not sure if I want to make this a staple, because there are two things keeping me from running it year-round:
1) The price --> Even if I was to switch over to Scivation's product (but honestly, I want to support Avant for their innovation), it would still be expensive at $30/month year-round.
2) The flatness --> I'll probably stop using it when I hit the beach over the holidays because as much as I love the results, I look a whole lot more full and sexay when off the Sesathin.

CLIFF NOTES: It worked and it kept me lean on a heavy bulk. The only side effect was muscle flatness which was, oddly enough, more visible than when I was cutting with Sesathin. I'm still torn between using it year-round, but it's very good sh*t insofar as heavy bulking goes.

P.S. Anyone have any theories about why the Sesathin makes my muscles look so flat even though I'm actually holding excess water with all the extra carbs/cals? Is all the water weight being stored somewhere else or something like that? Par, any insight?

I believe Par Deus' response in hte past is that the muscle triglyceride stores become depleted and so it can give the muscles a depleted look.

Someone correct if I am wrong but that's what my memory says.

Yeah, I think it is depletion of IMTG's.

It also is anti-inflammatory, which would inhibit cascades that cause a pump with increased contractile/metabolic activity. This would be most noticeable when working out, but when I am bulking I get pumps from things like putting on lotion or washing dishes. I would expect it to reduce these mini-pumps as well.

Considering using this during my current bulk, just wondering how/if I should take it with fish oil. I usually take 2caps 2x/day: should I take sesathin at same time, at different meals, when? Should I keep fish oil, or drop it?

You sohuld keep taking fish oil. Taking sesamin with fish oil is fine or at a different time as long as if it is the second then you should take it with at leat 10g of fat to aid absorption.

Yes, keep it, SesaThin and fish oil are synergistic.
