Too much powdered drinks bad for the kidneys?

Just to give you a scenario... I love green tea. It is cheaper for me to purchase the powdered green tea in a container and make it with water. I drink probably 1 gallon of it every day. I have yet to get a definite answer so maybe someone here knows... Does drinking too many drinks that are from powders bad on your kidneys (I have heard many people getting kidney stones from too many powdered drinks). If this were the case then wouldn't all the protein, creatine, etc. drinks also be bad for us in the long run? I am specifically asking about green tea though since I am addicted to it. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks everyone!

The development of kidney stones is related to decreased urine volume or increased excretion of stone-forming components such as calcium, oxalate, urate, cysteine, xanthine, and phosphate. Green tea in particular is rich in xanthines. It is also ties to some extend to urinal p.h. but that is too much to explain here. To answer your question, yes overusage could lead to forming of kidney stones, but only if YOU DON'T DRINK ENOUGH WATER. Drink lots and lots of water(don't forget that green tea is a diuretic) and you'll be ok.

Gotcha. Thanks. So I should drink more water on top of the water used for the powdered green tea, and that should help prevent stone formation? Maybe I'll drink green tea in the morning (boost the metabolism and get some extra energy early in the day) and then switch over to water during the afternoon. Thanks for the info, I appreciate it.
