A Day of Surgery : The Adventure (Hopefull You'll Feel Better About Your Day...)

I'll give you a epic tour of my day yesterday, which would soon come to be the worst day of my life.

Prologue : I am going in for surgery to get my massively deviated septom correct, as well as some sinus clearing/opening.

I wake up, all pumped for surgery of course. I'm not nervous, I go to the hospital at 8am. I get in the hospital bed at about 8:45 and have to wait to go to the holding room (right before surgery where the doc comes out and says hi and stuff). There's a woman that doesn't even look like a nurse, she's on a computer. She gets off and says hi to me, and brings out all the stuff to hook the IV up to me. I was nervous about the IV all week, but I didn't get really nervous until she brought the stuff out.

I really got nervous when she told me that she was going to put the IV into my hand. She first puts a shot in my hand to numb it (real fun), then she starts to slowly stick the IV into my hand. She sticks it in about an inch or so, pauses for like 30 seconds, and says "oops, I must have missed". I'm like ok wtf so I get real nervous now and start shaking a little. She pull the IV out, and 15 seconds later there's blood all over my hand. She says "oh now it starts bleeding, I thought I missed. I'll just let the anesthesiologist (sp?) do it. So he comes and he's a nice guy, he shoves it in my arm. He starts running some drugs through me as he pushes me to the surgery room, and I start feeling really uncomfortable. I then see the surgeon and the nurse with him and she asks me what school I go to. I don't remember anything after that.

I wake up, freaking mouth is bone dry in the recovery room. My nose feels like it's crammed full and my head is all pressured. Nurse asks me where I am...my mouth is so dry I can barely say "recovery room". I then remember asking about 5 times if I can have water and that I can't swallow my mouth is so dry. I end up getting 1 ice chip. Before I know it, I'm being wheeled back to where I started, and my mom comes to see me. I'm still 1/2 out of it, all I want to do is sleep. I of course can't do this because I have to drink and go pee in order to get out, so I drink some ice chips. About 10 minutes later I say that I want to get up and go pee. The nurse helps me over to the bathroom, and I shut the door. At first I can't go, and I keep trying, and then just as I start to the nurse opens the door. Cool. I get out, go back to bed, and the nurse says that I just have to get some last minute checks done and then I can leave. For some reason, I am in a REALLY, REALLY bad mood. Another nurse comes in blabbing with her loud annoying voice at me, I of course don't listen to a thing she says, the only thing I'm thinking is "die, die." I don't know why I'm in such a bad mood, I just want to scream at anybody that speaks.

I get home, and I feel like death. The packing in my nose is horrible, it feels like I'm being tortured. There's a ton of pressure in my head, and I can't breathe at all through my nose. My grandparents come over with my cousin, and everything is loud. This just puts me in a worse mood, and I go up to my bed. After about 30 minutes, I go down stairs not paying attention to anybody who was there and just loudly said "I want everyone to leave so I can come down." They leave, and I go down stairs. It's about 3pm. I'm starving, and I eat a ton. I can't taste anything, but I just keep eating. The next hours would be the slowest of my life...

...I watch TV and start a movie, but at about 10 I just can't take it I want to sleep. At 11, I start drifting off to the Simpsons finally. I don't totally sleep, but I feel like I keep dozing off a little like 5 or 6 times. I slowly wake up more to the sound of a neighbors car (me still being in the bad mood wants to yell at it, but what good would that do lol). So my feeling of rage temporarily die as I think to myself "hey, she's probably getting up for work, it's probably about 6. I get to take the packing out soon, thank God." I get up and check the clock. 12:36. If you looked at me that instant, it looks like I just saw a ghost. There's NO way that it can only be 12:30, it feels like I've been sleeping for at least 20 hours. I go around the house and read every other clock to make sure I'm not losing my mind. I wake my mom up and ask if the clock says 12:30. It was the longest, slowest, worst night of my life. I laid there still in amazement of how slow the time went. My nose was killing me, not pain, but incredibly uncomfortable.

I somehow made it to 6am which seemed like 50 hours (literally), and I got up to eat something. I take some Tylenol (regular, the only meds I took, don't do well with codine at all), and prepare myself to take the packing out at 7, finally. All the gauze shoved up my nose is attached to strings that hang out my nostrils. Even lightly touching the strings sends a really tickly feeling up my nose (not a good one). I start thinking that maybe this isn't going to be a glorious time at all. I start tugging the strings, and then start pulling hard. It starts to hurt bad, but not budge at all. I'm still out of it from no sleep and I'm really nervous about pulling this crap out. My mom calls the hospital who calls my surgeon. I was planning to go to the hospital and have them inject me with something and then they take it out while I'm partially out of it. The surgeon just says that I can take it out myself, and not to be afraid to pull hard. He just says moisten the area and grab all of the strings and pull. Well, that was unsuccessful. I get really nervous again, and wonder how I'm going to pull this through. I get the idea to go in the shower and do it there, that way everything is real moist. I'm not going to go into details from here because it's too nasty, but I had to pull REALLY hard to get all of the gauze out, and it was one of the worst feelings of my life. Blood all over the shower, and running out of my nose.

I get the bleeding from a pour to a drip, and get out of the shower (this morning). I feel like a new person. I still can't breathe through my nose (blood and crap), and I'm running on no sleep with a constant nose bleed, but I feel great compared to yesterday. I pulled the gauze out at about 8am, and right now it's 1:27pm and I still have a constant nose bleed/drip. Oh yeah, I have a sinus infection to.

sounds kinda like when i had all 4 my wisdom teeth removed, the 1st thing i did when i woke up was vomit lots of blood. but yours sounds worse because i hate not bieing able to breath right.

my brother hit me in the nose with a bat when i was younger (on accident). It broke my nose and im quite sure i have a deviated septom which will be fixed next summer.

I have never had surgery, and honestly i never want to have surgery.

The bone down the middle of your nose that seperates your nostrils is you septom. Mine was EXTREMELY crooked, therefore I had virtually no air passageway on one side.

my septum effects my voice too i believe. its kinda hard to explain. but if pinch your nose together and talk thats how i sound when i listen to myself on video or listen to my voicemail. and it makes me sound like i got a bunch of **** in my nose and it also sounds like i deep really heavy through my mouth.

henny have u noticed any change in the way your voice sounds?

when i get the surgery, do they straighten my nose back to normal? Mine is noticably crooked.

Sounds pretty sucky. Imagine having a cyst in your ass getting removed though. That was a fun little experience. Also imagine almost dieing cause the hospital gave you too much relaxation stuff. Then not being able to **** for three days cause your too afraid of ripping the stitches out. Plus not being able to sit right for over a month without feeling pain. Then having a doctor pull the stitches out of your ass crack. That was uncomfortable. I would much rather deal with some blood and packing in my nose.

hey bro i read all of it, and really do feel your plight and the emotion that shows through your text. good on you mate for making it through, your a tough soldier. Now you've gone through so much, other so called "painful" things that you will come across in your life will look like baby **** compared to this.

the anesthesia was what made you mad at everyone and everything. it's pretty common.

sometimes it can be really hard to get a good vein for an IV, even if your **** is really visible.

11 months ago, chillin at my house getting ready for the weekend casue me and a bunch of buddies rented a cabin on a beach, like 45 mins from where we live.

so anyways im at my house and i throw some porn on, and go at 'er a bit.... now i've always had a very thick unit, genetics i guess.

Now i try everything, getting it limp, holding a bag of ice on my nuts, lubing it up, etc... to try and get it to go back over, but nothings working.

as time passes and i'm still struggling to get it back over, more and more blood keeps flowing into it, but because of the tightness, not all of it can get out. so swelling starts to occur. this is when i realize i'm in trouble, so i get my old man and tell him to take me to the ER and step on it. at this point i'm in serious pain but nothing crippling.

when we get to the hospital, i tell them the dizzle and the doc gives me a shot of something to ease the pain
he then tells me hes going to try and get it back over by just pulling it on the count of 3. 1, 2, 3.. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

ok ok, theres to much swelling so it cant go back, i'm going to squeeze some of the blood out (yes im being serious), on 3. 1, 2, 3...... AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
i have never experienced such pain in my entire life, i cant even think of words to describe it

they realize they are going ot have to send me to a specialist at a bigger hospital to get it taken care of asap, so they give me another shot and send me in an ambulance.
keep in mind that blood keeps entering the end of my dick, but not all of it can get out, so swelling increases more and more.

by the time i get there my dick is the size of a football. no matter what kind of shots they give me nothing can take the pain away... i'm literally laying in a hospital bed in agony, crying (i cant remember the last time before this i actually cried from pain, probably like 8 years old)

they try the same thing the other doc did, first stretching, then squeezing the blood out
all you could hear on that section of the hospital is me, screaming when they do the squeezing.... it was like my dick was in a vice

after this doesnt work they realize they have to do an incision to loosen it, then pull it back over and sew it back up
to do this they have to do a nerve block, where they get a needle about 6 inches long and jab it in right above your pelvic area, deep enough to hit the nerve, which numbs that entire area of your body

so they do that, then they do the incision and stitch me up

that takes about 2 weeks to heal, then i had to get circumcized

imagine having 20 stitches in your dick, constant bleeding, no way to bust your nut, all while having the hormones of a 20 year old

it got to the point where i popped 3 stitches and had to have them redone, which made it take another 3 weeks to heal

needless to say, i now cringe whenever i see a hospital

I had exactly the same experience henny, I had corrective surgery done to my teeth. They had to tear up my gums and realign the teeth. After the surgery was done, i woke and realised i was barely able to see. I slowly walk to the bathroom, n look in the mirror to see what was up... my face had swollen up to 3 times its size!! my cheeks had become so large they were literally covering up my eyes! n like u i had gauze/cotton stuck up my nose to stop my nose from bleeding...

What was really ****ed was the dryness stage.. they wouldnt let me have any water for 8 hours(if i recall correctly) after the surgery... i kept begging for water but instead i was given these ice cubes to rub on my libs... it was ****ing annoying.. then eventually when i did get to drink water.. i barely could take a gulp... i had to drink a few drops at a time :/... eating was far worse... i was on a liquid diet the whole while...

The IV bit was also really damn painful... when they inserted the tube and also when they removed it... i had the scar for maybe about a month or so before it completely healed.

Ouchy austrian...you put my ass cyst to shame. Lol I bet it wasn't as gross though as when my cyst popped. It was like taking a shaken can of pop and stabbing it with a knife. Sounded like it too. Looked at the toilet after i was done and all you could see was red and this puss looking colored stuff. Then when the doc did the surgery he said there was a ball of hair and "debris" (most likely poop and dried blood and dried puss) that was the size of a walnut and the shape of an egg.
