Previous injuries limiting me from gaining weight?
About 4 years ago I was hit by a car that was turning at an intersection on a rainy night and hurt my wrist and hip. I was crossing the intersection and it said don't walk but I couldn't wait because it was raining hard and I didn't notice any car in sight and didn't bother to look at the street perpendicular to the street I was crossing and wanted to get to my car quickly because it was raining hard. My wrist looks different than before the accident when I bend my hand and I have limited ROM of my hand because something seems to get in the way when I bend my hand back and it makes it painful when it's almost bent at a 90 degree angle from my wrist. The car hit my right hip and I was thrown in the air and I think I landed on my right palm. I didn't sue the guy, I didn't get any information from him and told him I'm okay, and I couldn't see him clearly because my glasses were on the street. I let him go, I didn't bother waiting for an ambulance even though I saw a fire truck arrive at a building nearby. I let him go because I was in shock and I thought I was okay because I got up right after I landed on the street and could walk with my right wrist a little sore.
When I got home I started having worse pain in my wrist and hip and found out that I'm actually not okay. My dad is a doctor and I told him what happened and he said I just sprained it and I didn't get an xray because he was sure to himself that it isn't broken. A couple of months later things improved very little on my wrist and I told him again about the problem and he just says there is nothing I can do and to work around it.
I took 3 months off from lifting and used my own judgement on how well I'm doing which I think was a mistake and when I returned I lifted lightly for my first month back then started training heavy after that month. There was a point when my wrist would stop getting better although the pain improved quite a bit while bending my hand back and it didn't seem to get better for one month before returning to lifting. I thought that this is the best that it's going to get and even my dad the doctor said it won't get better. I still haven't got my wrist and hip xrayed. I told him about my hip too and he said it's a tendon and another time I told him about my hip while I walk and he said I need to start getting in shape. I occasionally have a weird feeling in my right inner hip where it feels like something is dislocated or a bone getting caught on another bone while I walk.
I would like to see another doctor but I'm worried that I can't afford it as I'm a student, I never sued the guy that hit me, and I'm not allowed to bypass my dad and that means no second opinion. Also had a hard time gaining my muscle back when I returned to lifting and it seemed took 4 month to gain back 7 lbs and I'm really building muscle slowly and have stalled for the past 5 months and can't seem to put on more than 23 lbs of weight. I'm suspecting that I actually broke my wrist and hip from that accident because they are not the same as before the accident and I was in months with pain and it didn't totally go away and would like to get a second opinion on my injuries but finances and not being able to bypass my dad is getting in the way and I still live at home with my parents and that means that they will find out right away.
Is it possible that these previous injuries are slowing down my gains. I weighed around 149-153 lbs at 5'9" for the past 5 months and for the past 4 years only gained up to 23 lbs. I didn't like to be called skinny any longer and feel sorry for myself because of the accident. I think I'm going to stop lifting until I get these nagging injuries checked by another doctor with xrays but I don't think that will happen until I move out unless there is some other way I can see another doctor without my dad finding out and I hope my weight lifting days aren't over.
