Men's Health Study
In this month's issue of M.H., they printed a study that said that glutamine stacked with other branched-chain amino acids is better for holding on to your gains than taking monohydrate creatine.
Discuss.

What we should really be discussing is why you're taking supplement advice from mens health magazine.
In short thats a load of crap. Search and you shall receive.

What's the deal with these people stating something and then saying "discuss"? Sounds like a teacher giving an essay topic for homework.

What, do you guys think the studies were conducted by the crack staff at Men's Health or something? They posted a peer-reviewed study, those idiots. Of course BCAAs are going to help you retain a greater percentage of lean body mass made than creatine will.

I have the same issue, and in another page they claim 30g of protein is all your body can handle in a day for building muscle.
So theres your credibility for Mens Health, end of thread.

actually, pg 54, bottom right corner in a sectoin called 'Proteins & Cons': "How much supplemental protein does a typical weight-lifting man really need to gain muscle? No more than 30 grams (g) per day, says Dave Grotto, R.D., a Men's Health nutrition advisor. 'Protein provides 4 calories per gram', he says. 'So whatever our bodies aren't using will become extra baggage"

Ive been getting Mens Health magazine for the past couple of years and Ive finally had enough of it. The people who write the articles know very little about bodybuilding. And their sex tips and all the other bs you read, I could write better articles for them.
Do yourself a favor and dont buy MH magazine anymore. It is totally worthless, even more worthless than the glutamine they recommend to take.

I believe I recall a thread on AL saying that glutamine has almost no oral bioavailability whatsoever, so basically it's a total waste. I think the topic was about ****'s glutamine ethyl ester.

I think Men's Health has some interesting articles on overall health, medical conditions, relationships, etc. But for fitness advice, it's definitely geared toward the weekend warrior who thinks he's an athlete. Their workouts can be pretty bad...a suggested shoulder workout might look something like this:
cable laterals, one-arm push press (with a 20 Ib. DB mind you) and some other BS exercises that are no damn good for those looking to build a solid foundation.

now that is hardcore! I'm gonna pass their advice on to some lifters I know. That and the 30g of protein a day recommendation should get everyone on their way to super yoked status
