How Do I Avoid Going Swimming?
Okay, this Wednesday my friends and some other friends are going to the pool. I promised to go with them this week, since I promised them last week but I didn't go because I'm scared of water. How do I get out of this one? I don't want to look like a wuss.

Hey man, Michael Jordan had hydrophobia.
And I had a bad experience where I almost died twice but lifeguards saved me in both scenarios
BTW the shallowest part of the water is 6 feet high? I thought it would have been more like 3-4 feet for "shallow" water. Besides, I'd look stupid anyway while everyone else is swimming in 12-13 feet of water.

The best thing to do is to condition yourself to not be afraid of water. Think about why you are afraid, then think of the logical reasons that you should not be afraid of it. I dont know your reasons, but if you stay in the shallow end, its like sitting in a bathtub or something. If youre afraid of drowning, then just dont go underwater and chill in the shallow end with the ladies lol. But the best solution is to work at not being afraid of water anymore. Chek up on google for stuff like... overcoming irrational fears or something... that should give you some helpful info.
Edit... ok my post came a little late, but try this stuff anyways. and avoid the stuff that almost made you drown last time.

It's just the experience from swimming that scares me. I can't drown in the shower...

sorry but if youre scare of water you are a wuss lol. just go in man- it wont hurt you, the human body is bouyant on a full breath of air, and you can just grab onto the sides f the pool if youre scared about sinking (the edges of the bottom of pools almost always have a little foot ledge)
-edit- you can also bring out a floaty tube or something and just float around. hell, make it funny. for instance, i went swimming with the senior class when my arm was hurt, and i couldnt swim in deep water without struggling. instead of trying to find ways around going in the deep end, i went wayyy overboard and put like 30 personal floatation devices on. i was as bouyant as a duck, could play with my friends, and got a good clean laugh out of it without them even knowing i was covered in floaties for a reason other than just joking

I would make up the most plausible excuse you can think of to get out of going to the pool. If you truly suffer from a fear of water, you are not going to have a very good time. Remember, it is a pool party of sorts. If you don't get in voluntarily, then you are going to be thrown in and that would be a disaster.

Best advice so far
One thing: most likely if I go in the water everyone just starts dunking each other so I'm afraid of that
Is swallowing a lot of chlorine bad?

If you get any water up your nose you might die.
Also watch out for Jaws.
Seriousoly I recommend learning how to swim sometime. It will be of use later when you go on the lake with beers and women.

Thanks for the help guys...the only thing I need to worry about is my fat and not drowning I guess...I just thought of another excuse, I could say the water is getting too cold after I stay in the water for like 20-30 minutes then come out and pretend like nothing is going on then go to the food stand and eat my chicken. I don't know if it will work, though...

If anything can conquer a fear of water, hot chicks in bikinis can. You can't flirt if they're in the pool and your not.
There will be chicks there, won't there?

Just tell them that one of your relatives is in the hospital, and that you are going to see them. Or pretend that you are sick or something.

Time to suck it up and quit being a pu$$y. You can do it man. Get some of those water wings that little kids put on their arms and go to town.
I hear ya man. I really dont like lakes too much but im not scared of them. Do you think if you told your friends they would all make fun of you? Sometimes the truth is the the best thing. When its not, beat their asses.

nothing wrong with being afriad of water. ive heard of worse phobias. ive heard of one person who had a phobia of cotton wool.
its easy to get a phobia of something if you have a bad experience with it and you have the right type of mindset.
A poet once developed a phobia of phones simply becuase he was using one when a bomb went off nearby.
you could just tell your friends that you cant be bothered or that you dont like swimming.

Tell them you have a vagina instead of a penis, therefore you can't swim very good.

How long do you reckon they will make fun of me if I tell them the truth? I already said I'd go swimming, so they probably think I have no problem with it
