Do we need to police ourselves?

I haven't been here long so I don't know all the ropes, but from what I can tell we have two moderators that are on the ropes.

I also don't know how tight of a ship they have ran in the past so I am kind of playing it by ear.

I know that I am one of those guys that if given an inch I will take a mile and stretch it into 2 miles.

I have checked the threads all the way back as far as I can and it appears that there was less joking around and more just asking and answering questions.

Personally I like the way Gamedaydog has suggested where we answer the questions thoroughly and then it's open the gates and let the madness in.

I realized this morning that I had started a post that was geared totally toward getting yucks and maybe it should not have been posted. http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=490775

I also deleted one of my posts yesterday because I felt that I had said some things in it, (INSIDE JOKES ABOUT TONE) that might scare the person off.

My whole point of all this is that I think some of the people that have been here for longer a period of time need to step forward and tell us what the spirit of the board was in the past and how we should conduct ourselves until the Mods get back into the swing of things. You board elders are the Torch Bearers so give us some guidance...

My impression is that we are getting some much needed new blood in here and at the sametime not taking ourselves so seriously. Both of these are a good thing in my opinion. I found it a bit unsettling that some of our good members were banned in what seemed to be an arbitrary fashion, but I suspect that some of that was hashed out behind the scenes so things like this are handled more evenhandedly in the future. I only bring it up because that is the only downside to what seems like a very encouraging trend in the Over 35 section. It was always very informative, now it seems to me like it is becoming a more open community with many new and interesting facets.

Just my thoughts.

I enjoy the "Over 35 Section" Very informative, good group of people, aaaannnd......I even showed a pic of myself without my shirt on... and nobody said "I think I'm gonna puke".....how cool is that? To hell with it, I came across this the other day......this is hiliarious.

We do police ourselves, for the most part, by virtue of our maturity. I've been here since... well... look at my profile... I forget.

It is a very rare and odd occasion that we get an interloper that disrupts the flow of the Over Age 35 forum.

If this has to do with Chi backing away, keep in mind that something was the last straw for him. I'm sure the mods get bombarded with pms and e-mails cussing them out and pissing and moaning about everything.

It will blow over.

Lots of us hang out here goofing off in between workouts while our muscles are resting and getting all hoooooge.
I even have been known to go cause trouble in the misc.section.
It keeps us off the streets

Even tho I'm running the show whyle the Mods are AWOL ... ( Can be a Mod for a month, pleeeeaaaaasssseeeeeee) ... We are definitely encouraging the new blood here and hopefully having great fun in the process... There was absolutely nothyng wrong with the thread you started... I laughed...

There are tons of insyde jokes going around on the forum... and it's been great that we've had 2 fantastic mods that openly laugh & joke with us and with each other... One of my earliest memories... was when Chi-Town called Fitty - Thong Boy.. and Fitty said - That's a 3 day ban for you!!! ... I hadn't realized they were both mod's and were just joking... Later, Fitty posted a pic of Chi-Town dressed in a peter pan costume and said - thys is Pete before he started working out... How many Mod's can you tease about punking out of a thong pic??? Probably 1...

I'll be the fyrst to admit that I hate the word tone... I'm not the only one, there's a woman with a sig that says - "If you want to be taken seriously. Don't use the word tone." ... Of course, I started the process of applying the word pussy to guys that use the pad when they squat or when people need a little motivation... but we're friends here & family and we can do that... When I workout, I give it 110%.. because when I post my workout, I don't want anyone to say.. pussy! ...

There's no harm in having fun... Yes, we police ourselves.. our humor is not sexist.. or racist.. or any other "ist" ... but funny.. clean funny.. old school Bill Cosby funny... and that's the way it should be .. but AFTER the questions are adequately answered... After the newbies make a few dozen posts and become comfortable, they'll be in on the insyde jokes too...

I can be harsh on everyone... because I want you all to achieve your goals and be your best... and to styck with it..

Ever see a little boy drawing on the walls with a crayon.. "Honey, don't write on the walls anymore, it's not nyce.." .. Kyd keeps drawing on the wall.. "Honey, please don't write on the wall." Kyd keeps drawing on the wall.. Then you grab the belt and say, "IF I SEE ONE MORE MARK ON THAT WALL, SO HELP ME GAWD, I'M GONNA BEAT YOU BLACK & BLUE!!!" ... Kyd drops the crayon immediately... Some folks respond to tough love... and it's alwayz easier to continue staying out of shape, than it is to turn your life around and get in shape... There's 1 reason to go to the gym and a million reasons not to... I see it all the tyme with my syster... We ran the steps in my condo ONCE... but she'll pop fat burners religiously... then after we go out, she'll spend all day cropping the pictures to change her appearance.. or when we pose, she'll put people in front of her.. Sigh... Don't thynk I don't apply foot to her arse either...

The best thyng about having thys forum is that there's more than one answer for everythyng... but when we reach a consensus, you can pretty much believe that we've reached the best possible solution... Let's keep having some fun... Man, sorry for the long a$$ post.. I love thys section & thys forum.. Now everyone, go lyft somethyng heavy!!

this comeback newbie came to the forums for up to date info after a 10yr hiatus. searched other forums and had to find my way through alot of stuff that did not fit the thread. Then I found the over 35 section. as many of you have said, there is all the info with a good mixture of "mature humor" . Keeps us young !!!!!

Nothing needs to be changed here, and like Minotaur said, we do police ourselves by vitue of our maturity. I have only been here 1 1/2 years but have been on the boards for awhile now and even mod at a small one. There will always be an ebb and flow to a board as new members come and old members go. And as that ebb and flow occurs the "tone" ( sorry GDD) will change as the members do. Nothing wrong with some good hearted kidding around now and then.
Chi left for personal reasons from things that happened outside of this forum, and Fitty may be considering the same move, I have no idea about that. So be it, we are all adults and that is their choice. We were very lucky that they choose this particular forum to moderate and if we are not so lucky with who ends up here next, well, we can tough it out or choose to post elsewhere. I know that I enjoy it here.

Well, the way I see it, if someone is seeking a releationship when they are already currently in one to begin with (from what I am reading from the thread that has started this whole thing)...there are other web sites to take that to. We need to leave that out of here. Sure we can joke around and have fun in here...and there is a lot of harmless flirting that goes on too. Everyone does it...but I think everyone knows where to draw the line also in this forum.

And as Forest Gump would say...."Thats all I got to say about that"
