Muscle Shirts: Do's and Don'ts
aka "wife beaters" are more common in the spring and especially summer... as we all know, there are a pleathera of douchebags that wear these in order to impress girls. As bodybuilders we all say "**** those douchebags" but we all wear them too. I follow some rules when wearing them though:
Do's
1.) Do wear them when its really hot outside. In cooler weather, you'll just look like a complete showoff and will freeze your nips off when the breeze blows.
2.) Do wear them after tanning. It just doesn't look right when you are pale.
3.) Do buy Hilfiger expensive ones because they look better and last longer. Hanes rip too easily and are paper thin.
Don'ts
1.) DO NOT try to show off with beach muscles (biceps, pecs.) True BBers know how easy they are to get, and we call this a "douchebag move" because its more of an insecurity issue more than a "confidence to wear it" issue.
2.) (pertains to first) Don't think your the sh-t just because you have pecs and biceps... Those are easy to get. Lats and rear delts really stand out in muscle shirts, be proud of them.
3.) Don't wear them too frequently, more than 3 or 4 times a week because it gets kinda old.
4.) Don't try to impress anybody else by wearing these. Wear them because its comfortable and you're in the mood to wear them.
So, as you would figure, theres been this douchebag waltzing around the campus this summer semester thats been wearing muscle shirts for like two weeks straight in 70 degree breezy weather... He's like a toothpick and barely has biceps and walks around like hes the sh-t. Terrible. He's like 170 lbs at 12% body fat and I'm 205 at 14% bodyfat... If I came in with a wife beater on I think he'd sh-t himself...
People can wear what they want to, but don't expect us not to laugh when you cross that line into being a douchebag.
Post your do's and don'ts!

You seem waaaaay too preoccupied with what other people wear.
Also, pecs and biceps are not EASY to get. Thats going a bit too far. Im not a bber, but I wear muscle shirts. No one is laughing at me. I actually get hit on more when wearing one.
I agree with some of your list, but as you say, people can wear what they want.

YesISpitFire you sound insecure as hell. Sound like you say this because you don't want others that aren't as big as you to get any attention. You feel angered that those with biceps and chest get equal or more attention than you with the full package. Hard done by. Get over it.

Usually things don't piss me off, but as a true bodybuilder, I see douchebags like that and I'm like, you have no idea what it takes to build muscle, so don't think your hot sh-t when you have the body of Linda Hamilton from T2. Your skinny as ****.
Oh yeah, you haven't tryed Hilfiger wife beaters obviously.

A true bodybuilder, quite like yourself, doesn't need to come on the internet and start a thread about how he hates people with 13" biceps wearing wife beaters because they don't know what it takes to build muscle.

Muscle shirts were not invented just for bodybuilders. Anyone can wear them.
I wear them for comfort mainly. Yes, I look good in them too. Am I as big as a bodybuilder? No, but thats not a requirement.
You need to spend less time looking at guys.
IMO, how DARE you wear a muscle shirt being 14% bf...you HAVE to at least be 10% bf to wear one.

I know how my statement sounds really insecure, and we are all insecure to a degree, its just human nature. But relatively mentally stable but you gotta understand my vantage point. I was a skinny mother****er back in HS about 160-170 lbs and I put on a lot of muscle (205 now) with 14% body fat because I had chosen to. Its so easy for some skinny **** to throw on a wife beater and be like "damn, i'm cut" but have not idea how hard it is to acheive muscle mass (I'm a meso-ecto.) I just don't respect that attitude and expressing my opinion, and of course others will think that I am wrong. I'm not angry, I just disagree with acting like that. Thats why I respect Ronnie Coleman so much because hes a pretty humble man for his size.

You sound really insecure and 14%bf is nothing to brag about. He probably looks better than you, thus fueling your jealous behavior.

^^ aww, don't make me post some pics now!
No seriously, I have nothing to prove to anybody, just to myself. Call me jealous, insecure, call me what you will, but I think some of you are missing the point. I'm just expressing my opinion that (got this) humility is a great thing, and boasting should be earned. Theres still mutual respect for everybody including people who act like that, but no respect for their decision.

So, if this guy that you are preoccupied with began weighing 125 pounds and worked his way up to 170, you still believe he has no right to wear a wife beater simply bc you are 30 pounds heavier? That makes no sense at all. Somehow you earned it, but he hasn't? It's all relative dude.

Yeah, i have to disagree with the Tommy and the Bi's/Pec ones.
Why buy one $50 muscle shirt when you can buy FOUR regular ones that look just as good for the same price.
And pec's/bi's are NOT easy to get. Ive been working out for a year and my pecs still suck. I dont know about you guys, but they dont just appear after a few sessions in the gym.

Haha...exactly...especially if there is no juice involved.
I guess I need to turn in my muscle shirts back to the gym. God forbid I encroach on the exclusive bodybuilder's muscleshirt club.

I get your point, you don't have to have big muscles to wear muscle shirts. But since he's wearin them in cool weather for two weeks straight and the way he's actin, its pretty obvious hes tryin to show off. I just see it like "dude, okay you can stop tryin so hard." And in my opinion, they're called muscle shirts for a reason, and my idea of muscle is not toothpick thin cut muscle. The skinnier guys will take the other side and the bigger guys will take my side. Thats why I said a bodybuilder focuses on muscular hypertrophy primarily will be like wtf that guys a tool. Personally, I think abercrombie model skinny guys are tools because its so easy for them to be like that (most of them are just genetically gifted.) Try to put on some muscle mass, thats a real challenge.

Real challenge? You just do the same thing and eat more. The real challenge would be to have abs that show, while keeping decent mass.
And the genetically gifted argument won't fly around here.

Whoa, whoa, whoa... chill out dude. Why are you gettin so mad? And your way oversimplifying mass building... First of all, increasing calories clean is number 1. Cooking 10 lbs of beef 4 lbs of chicken and a **** load of good carbs to go with it, every week, is not easy... and I consider that a half-assed approach to make due while in school.
Gentically gifted as in mesomorph, ectomorph, endomorph... you know uh, DNA does have more than a lot to do with how we respond to training/nutrition.

It sounds like you dont like his attitude, not really his clothes.

But, your idea of muscles is really not the point. If he is claiming to be a bodybuilder or wearing a shirt that says "im bigger than you", then you might have an argument. He is just wearing a muscle shirt though. Big deal.

Sorry if that sounds disrespectful, I mean I can only really say from my expierience as being really lean back in HS and having a fast metabolism. Now, I just manipulate my diet (hardest part) in terms of my training. I never said maintaining muscle mass while cutting was easy, in fact its almost scary in my opinion to work that hard at mass and then loose it if you make wrong decisions while cutting...
Anyway, what I said was somebody naturally skinny that goes and lifts some d-bells and downs some protein shakes has these tiny muscles and throws on a muscle shirt with a cocky attitude, of course I'm gonna be like, your actin like a tool.
Oh yeah, Ace7 you're exactly right, I mean I pay no attention to sh-t in the gym when I'm training or usually anywhere else, but this just annoyed me for some reason. It's an aquired ability though, to be able to ignore some people's stupid actions. My philosophy is, do what you wanna do but just don't affect me in anyway. For some reason, I just wanted to call this kid a tool.
