Inaccuracies in Gangsta Rap

50 Cent and his entourage, The Game included (though Game's album was well put together and he's gifted, but to him this still applies), and other rappers (Fabo) "talk gangsta sh-t" about owning weapons and body armor blah blah blah.

Now, that's all fine and dandy. I'm all about firearms and body armor, but they glaring inaccuracies stick out to somebody who actually knows their sh-t.

Exhibit A)

50 Cent: 50 raps about having "teflon" on his chest. There's no such thing as "teflon body armor". OK, I get the "on your chest", but "kevlar" or "spectra" are actually types of EXISTING body armor that are also 2 syllables. If 50 knew his sh-t, he would have used one of the two words "spectra" or "kevlar". In the rest of his rhymes, he says "my blah blah blah is bulletproof" [insert name of car, hat, shirt, pants, whatever], which is too ambiguous to really know exactly what he's referring to. The closest thing related to teflon anything is teflon bullets.

He didn't. See, there's no such thing as "teflon" body armor. There's teflon-coated armor piercing bullets, but the teflon doesn't add to the armor piercing effect. It actually is just there to prevent barrel degradation during rapid fire...the rounds are much more solid than m193 5.56 military ball or SS109/m855 steel core penetrator, and tend to f-ck up the barrel. That's what the teflon is for.

Exhibit B)

The Game: Game raps about how his "38 magnum" (there's no such thing) kill you, and then goes on to talk about how his "38 special" will rip through your vest.

There is no .38 magnum, and .38 special SUCKS at punching holes in vests.

Level I ballistic nylon (vietnam flak jackets) can prevent penetration of .38 rounds. However, the Interceptor kevlar body armor currently in use with the US military is IIIa, significantly more powerful.

Realistically, a concealed carry vest (something a drug dealer could easily get a hold of) is probably going to be IIa kevlar or IIIa spectra.
Spectra is much thinner than Kevlar, and is lighter and cheaper than Kevlar.
Any spectra vest and any kevlar vest WILL prevent penetration by a .38.

Game doesn't know his sh-t, as he makes references to non-existant guns and completely exagerrates their ability to penetrate body armor, even a sh-tty .38.


Exhibit C)

All those guys that rap about Tec-9's: Tec-9's are GARBAGE. Read: ABSOLUTE CRAP. No self respecting gang banger who values his life would ever pack a tec. They're garbage!

More likely, if they have a full-auto SMG, they probably have a Cobray that's been modified to be full auto, it's like a Mac10 but a big smaller.
But realistically, they'll probably just roll with a cheap 9 or (Taurus, Interarms, etc) .45 with some whatever bullets, maybe a couple .357 mags or 1911's.



I have no problem with gangster rap, but when somebody is pulling stuff out of their ass, you can tell they have no idea what they're talking about.

Getting shot up and surviving doesn't mean you're a thug, it means you can't duck for sh-t and the other guy can't shoot.

Gotta disagree on the tech 9 part. They're as gangster as they come.

They're like hte disposable camera's of the gun world. With a Disposable camera from a chemist or something you won't become a photographic prodigy, but you can still take pictures and get the job done fine, then take it in to get developed and you never have to see it again.

With Tech 9's you won't become Rambo overnight, but you can still spray bullets in the general direction (until it jams), kill someone and toss you're $40 gun in trash can never to see it again.

Only downside to either of them is that they aren't waterproof.

Glocks are not capable of being "cocked," they have no external hammer and are therefore inable to be "cocked back"

Too bad that IR pointers (AN/PEQ-2 comes to mind) are not visible to the naked eye. Therefore it would be worthless to anyone with out night vision devices. However, red dot visual aiming devices are visible to the naked eye.

Tech 9s and Mac-10s are crap, do you understand me? CRAP, C-R-A-P, the stuff that comes out of your ass. They jam more often than Smuckers. They are not effective. They will jam if you use a cheap brand of ammo. They jam if you use handloads, they jam for just about everything.

This bull**** "spray and pray" method you're talking about isn't effective. Because you spray the area and pray you're hitting the target. It's crap like that that is the reason why "fiddy cent" is still alive. One well placed shot would have ended him. But that's not "g'd" enough, so you have to do the moronic driveby in which you graze your target and subsequently hit trees, houses and everything else in the vicinity. Just because it looks "gangsta(uh)" doesn't mean that it's the best thing to do to kill someone.

The only downside is they aren't waterproof? What the hell does that matter for? How many guns do you think are? Practically none of them. Why do you need a waterproof gun? Are you killing sharks or something? Are you engaging in any riverine operations? Heavy rain will not cause a malfunction, well it will for the Crap-9 and Mac-****.

Ok lets look from another side of the picture. A lot of stuff you hear in rap is just for imagery sake. Some of it is because it rhymes with the hook. Some is just slang ie ...teflon (ever heard of the teflon don... ok maybe nothing sticks to teflon frying pans). Just don't overanalyse it. The closest any firearm comes to a .38 magnum is a .357 magnum.

.38 rounds can be fired through a .357. Since .38 is not a magnum round, a "38 magnum" could mean a .357.

Though this gives Game way more credit than he deserves.

Thanks for clearing up this whole teflon ****, i was always confused by the teflon on my chest. Although the other examples you gave...well its just used to rhyme lol, and we're talking g unit here, a 38 special is called a gat, a tec 9 is called a gat, a hand cannon is called a gat.

Why is a tec 9 gangster? its a cheap, small, bullet propulsion device that is easily available, and quick to saturate a target with small holes. Gangsters dont need armor piercing, low recoil, 40x scopes. They need banana clips.

question: I looked at the site with the body armors, and noticed the type 4 stops armor piercing rounds... what doesnt it stop, and how much would a vest weigh? and would a armor piercing round still break bone/ cause internal bleeding?
