I'd say, don't cook it with 3 cups of water. For 1 cup of oats, use between 1 2/3 and 1 3/4 cups of water. Don't cook them in the microwave either. Bring the water to a boil and then dump in the oats and cook for around 5 minutes or until desired consistency. Add cinnamon, milk, etc. to taste.

I'm with you man.
Here is what I do (if you don't mind drinking your breakfast)
1 packet of organic oatmel, 1 raw egg, 16 oz of water or milk, 1 scoop of whey protein (optional banana) and blend.
The egg and banana add thickness and density to it so it's like drinking a milkshake.....tastes damn good. And the oats are blended up so you can't even taste them.

I thoguht you had a 20% chance of getting food poisoning if you eat a raw egg... that's what someone told me once. That true?

Nowhere near 20%. I believe it's on the order of 1 egg per 20,000. Here's a bit that I found on the topic, just doing a quick search.
"From 1990 to 2001, 14,319 illnesses were attributed to SE
associated with shell eggs. Of those illnesses, 10,406 occurred during
1990 through 1995 and 3,913 occurred during 1996 through 2001 (Ref. 9).
In 2002, there were 32 outbreaks of SE illness, and the SE isolation
rate (illnesses per 100,000 population) was 1.77 " (1)
SE is Salmonella Enteriditis, the 2nd most common form of the Salmonella serotype.
"Since the early 1980s, the SE problem in shell eggs (fresh eggs purchased in cartons) has ballooned out of control. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported five times as many SE cases in 1995 as in 1980. (See Figure 1.) By 1994, SE caused an estimated 200,000 to one million human cases of salmonellosis each year. Contaminated eggs cause at least 80 percent of these illnesses, according to data from CDC. " (2)
(1) Department of Health and Human Services, Food and Drug Administration. "Prevention of Salmonella Enteritidis in Shell Eggs During Production; Proposed Rule"
(2) Center for Science in the Public Interest, Elizabeth Dahl and Caroline Smith DeWaal. "How a broken food safety system let contaminated eggs become a national food poisoning epidemic."
EDIT: Wow, sorry I just completely hijacked your thread didn't I? My apologies for that. Normally, I cook oatmeal with milk in the morning, and mix in a bit of vanilla whey protein. It sounds odd, but it's actually pretty nice (given that I do NOT like plain oatmeal).
Also, you could try mixing in some fruit like raspberries and blueberries. chopped apples aren't too bad, but for my tastes it isn't quite as nice. Another viable route would be to grind the oatmeal up with something like a coffee grinder, and add that into a morning shake. Doesn't work too great for me - when I get up, all my roommates still will be sleeping for 3-4 hours, so I try to keep the noise down .

wtf is wrong with you? Oats are ****ing bomb. If you can't handle non-taste plain steel cut oats, I reccomend the kind that come in little packets. They are flavored like apple cinnamon and raisin spice and ****. You'll like those kind.
i know wut u mean bro. fryied scrambled eggs are da bomb. mmm mmm good. scrambled eggs on some wheat toast, and peanut butter Kazam!

dont try the flavored packets. They have tons of things that will only halter your bodybuilding process. Sweeten it yourself by adding 2 cups of milk instead of water, packets of splenda, and some diced fruit (bananas taste great in here). And cinnamon is always welcome

No packets already have cane syrup and flavorings so you Don't need to add anything, especially milk. Screw Splenda as an artifical sweetener, just use cane sugar. And some packets already Have diced fruit (apples, raisins). And some ALREADY have cinnamon in as well.
Packets are far greater for convenience and taste.
No they don't have 'tons of things that will halter your bodybuilding process." <---wtf?? it's Oatmeal! That is good for bb'ing. Some are supplemented with vitamins and minerals as well.

you might wanna look at the sugar content on the label.
Thats in only ONE PACKET. Dude, i packet is .. what ? 1/3 cup of Oats ? Who the hell is gonna get a good meal out of 1/3 cup of oats ? If you eat 3 packets, depending on the packet, you can end up with around 30 grams of sugar in ONE MEAL.
Yah, eat up buddy. Nobody with brains around here will though.

I used to always eat the apple/cinnamon flavored oatmeal packets, which weren't bad, especially in smaller quanities. But I recently switched to plain ol' oatmeal, as an option with much less sugar compared to the apple/cinnamon. My method is just try to enhale it as if I were in a mad rush. I rarely chew it, it's just down the hatch. Helps with the bland taste issue for me.

Yogurt
I read this on here by someone I can't remember who but it tastes good. Take your favorite flavoured yogurt I usually by the small packs that come with the different flavours, vanilla and strawberry tastes best. Non-fat or regular kind and they now come with omega 3 added and plop it in there and your good. If you wanna try something different add milled flax seed in there and some nuts and its tasty. Give it a try and see.
