Lawyers contacted over school suspension
FLORENCE, Ariz., Aug. 31 (UPI) -- The parents of an Arizona eighth grader said they will seek legal recourse to reverse a suspension given to their son for doodling stick figures.
Joshua Vardakas, who attends Walker Butte K-8 School in Florence, Ariz., was suspended for three days, the Arizona Republic reported Friday.
One of his doodles was a stick figure pointing a gun at another with cartoon bubble saying "eek,? the newspaper said.
Stephanie and John Vardakas said their son was being targeted by the assistant principal and school resource officer even before the suspension.
"They have been bullying my son and other kids. This was the final straw," John Vardakas told the newspaper.
The mother said they will contact attorneys to make sure Joshua's rights are protected at school.
"He's scared to go to school," she told the Republic. "I don't know if this is to get back at me because I complain if they treat him bad.?
