if you don't have 90 seconds to nuke oatmeal in the morning you might be scheduling yourself a little to tight.
Maybe eliminate your morning pee?

steel cut should last a good week in the fridge covered.
People cook rice in advance for instance and that will last a whole week the oats will probally last even longer imo

Funny, cuz I do every single day.
you do have the microwave on cook and not defrost right?
Serioulsy I zap my steel cuts for 80 seconds.
and if you can't live without your oats, what's wrong with rolled?
but to answer your question, the oats will proabbly be fine in the fridge for a few days.

hahah, why not just put the mircowave in the bathroom and multitask.
lol
serisouly tho.. its all good steel cut will last 4 - 5 days. I usually make a pot myself to snack on with meals, i like to eat em cold. boiling em will sterlize the oats and such.. put em in the fridge after it cools and you will be good to go.
i prefer makin enought for 4 days. i dont like anything in my fridge after 4 days. thats max for me. my prefrence tho.

Steel Cut Oats take 30 minuteso nthe stove top so If you have a nice tupperware, yes you can cook ahead and refrigerate them. I like to put whatever topoing I am going to put on my oats on them the night before, like apples cinnamon, etc. and then have it ready with a bit of water, so that it doesn;t get dry in the mic, and nuke it. But I have been known to just throw the cooked oats in a pot with a bit of water on 1 or 2 while I am getting ready and then they are nice and warm for me. I really don;t like the consistency of microwaved food in general and much less oats but for itme, it has to be done somtimes.
I have not had such good experiences with oats and. or rice staying that long in the fridge, I say DOUBLE check them after 3-4 days and rice 3 days. You never know.

Yeah, most home-related fodborne illness come from cooked grains being stored in the refrigerator. It's funny because I'm willing to eat raw eggs (10 or so a day), raw beef (or nearly), raw fish, etc, but I won't usually store cooked grains for more than 24 hours or so. My solution is that you eat your oats raw like I do (8 eggwhites and 1 cup of oats into the blender with splenda and cinnamon; but if you're going to store it cooked, just make sure you don't go more than a few days before making a new batch. You could dd some lemon juice or a tasp. of some type of vinegar, too. It will help keep grimy little bacteria out of there.
