To play football or not to play? *reps*
Ok well here's the deal. I am a sophomore in high school, about 5'9-5'10 and 140 lbs. (yes very skinny but I used to be 120 a couple months ago. I have been playing soccer and baseball for my WHOLE life, I mean since the age of 4. This year, I just didn't feel like playing, so... I didn't. My dad was upset but I didn't want to do something I had no interest in. Originally I want to try some MMA or boxing, but my parents won't let me. Now that I am doing nothing but working out and school my parents are bothered I am not doing anything so I am considering football. I was never allowed to play football except for one year in like 5th grade like 5 years ago. I never really watched football either because both of my parents hate it, and that obviously means I don't even have a favorite team (yes sad)(yes parent's don't watch any sports). I am not 100% sure if I can even still join because I think it started but soccer is a no way because they already made cuts. Obviously I would go for JV, but I don't know if I am way too small or I would need to have past experience or something. I played cornerback years ago and wasn't too bad. I like defense but I doubt they would put somebody as small as me on defense at this point. I don't know what to do and I need some advice/help. Wrestling or baseball doesn't start until later in the year and Im confused.

I would just keep fighting to do MMA or boxing. That's my advice. If you wanted to do one of those two then u should do one of those two.

Not having a go at you, but I can't understand parents who don't let their kids play contact sports...
Tell them how fit you will get from it, too. Getting hurt is just a part of the game - it's getting up that counts.

I started varsity as a freshmen (running back) and weighed between 120-130 pounds and yeah it hurt to get hit from some players but I got up every play and if I got hit really hard and wanted to stay down, I would get up anyway and look like I was all good. I never wanted to let someone know they had hurt me and still don't. I entered my senior year at 160 pounds which isn't a lot but for my height it is decent. I had more a lot of power even though I am a speedy back. I really never had any hits that hurt that much. So if you want to play then play just try to put on more weight for your senior year though.

Well for the kid that said to stick to MMA or boxing, that is just the problem. I am not allowed to do MMA or boxing or else I would be focusing solely on one of those. My dad didn't let me box or do MMA, so I didn't play soccer because I didn't feel like it. I dislike my parents for keeping me from fighting, when I could be getting much experience and be good by the time I hit 18 years old instead of starting out fresh and getting my ass kicked. My parents never allowed me to play football, but now I am allowed. I still have to see if I can even play because I think it already started. I am going to have a talk with the coach and explain my situation of me just moving there and all, and maybe I can have a go. If not, everything happens for a reason. The thing I am worrying about is I know people have permanent back problems and such and injuries from playing football and I know if I pursue boxing in the future that might bother me. I am not totally sure what I am going to do but I guess I will just have a talk with the coach and see what happens. I am worried about me not having much experience. I do know that many people start football new in high school, so I guess with a little studying and practice I can get more in touch with the sport. As for being a kicker... That's not really for me I don't even have that strong of a kick and that would get boring to me, I'd prefer being on defense also but I might be too small. Well I'll stop the rant and update you guys when I get back from school.

Definetly try out for football. Usually in high school football everyone makes the team, their is no roster limits. Get your foot in the door, start doing some speed and strength training and work your way into being a starter. Don't hate your parnets for not wanting you to get into MMA, im sure lots of parnets feel the same way. Plus there are no college scholarships awarded to MMA fighters but plenty for good footbal players.
