Scientists to Announce Today That Life is Probably Found on Mars
Quote:
The soil on Mars may contain microbial life!
Joop Houtkooper of the University of Giessen, Germany, will declare on Friday the Viking spacecraft may have found signs of a weird life form based on hydrogen peroxide on the subfreezing, arid Martian surface.
His analysis of one of the experiments carried out by the Viking spacecraft suggests that 0.1 percent of the Martian soil could be of biological origin.
That is roughly comparable to biomass levels found in some Antarctic permafrost, home to a range of hardy bacteria and lichen.

They haven't found the actual life form on mars but some evidence of it. I guess we will find out next year then the robot lands there in may.

Scientists are also on the verge of creating artificial life. It will be created within the next 3-10 years. Probably 3. They've got everything planned out and have gotten through the initial stages.
http://www.cnn.com/2007/TECH/science....ap/index.html
Quote:
Around the world, a handful of scientists are trying to create life from scratch and they're getting closer.
Experts expect an announcement within three to 10 years from someone in the now little-known field of "wet artificial life."]
|
Also, depending on the nature of this life found on Mars, if it's similar to life on Earth then it could prove pansermia, that life on Earth came from life on Mars or vice versa.

I believe there is a little more to cancer and AIDS then there is to sending a probe into space to take samples.

That's it. Couldn't remember it's name. I thought that was our best chance at finding life outside of our planet?
Edit: The outside is ice. They want to drill through and hope to find water.
