keto bulk and cut carb crazy
ok..... fitnessman's carb statements, and creatine water retention make alot of sense to me now. I am just getting into the keto, but I'm trying to bulk and cut at the same time. I'd like to limit the comments that I get from you guys to the people who share my body type. no offense, but most of you folks on here seem to weigh 150lbs, and i haven't weighed that little since grade school. it's like a guy who's only driven an 84 nissan hatchback trying to give advice to a guy who drives a chevy 3/4 ton van on how the vehicle should run. so i'd like to hear comments from fellow size monsters. you know who you are. the guys who always feel as though the world wasn't built big enough for you.
i started power lifting 2 years ago because i was tired of being the big weak guy. over two years I went from 230 to 302. my strength has gone up pretty well i guess. I'm still know where near what I want to be. I recently went home to TX to visit family. haven't been there in over 3 years. everybody made such a fuss about how different i looked, which i took to be a nice way of saying "man you got fat". so i decided that although i still want to get huge, I want to be the right kind of huge. I need to lose weight. So I got in here and started farting around with keto-ish eating. my first week i ate a lot of Chinese food, but I had eliminated all bread, sweets, pasta etc etc, except milk. I lost 10 lbs in that week. but i hadn't been lifting that week, and hadn't been taking my creatine or protein. In the mirror I looked a little trimmer. I got some good advice from a lady on this forum on getting rid of the chinese food, and adding extra fat. but i still haven't eliminated the milk. this week i started back into my heavy lifting and supps. i still look a little trimmer, but I've gained back 5 pounds slowly over the past 5 days. I was worried that it was the milk.
i dont count the carbs and stuff as much as i should but my typical diet this week has been:
5:30 am 3 egg omelet with cheeese sausage, peppers fried in butter, sometimes mushrooms, bacon, black olives. carbs??? 16 oz of whole milk 22 carbs, protein shake 3 carbs.
630 am N.O. Xplode shake 0 carbs, some creatine
7:00 am 1 hour workout 4 exercises of 5x5's one muscle group a day
9:00 am protein protein shake 3 carbs. creatine shake 0 carbs
11:30 am lunch 1/2 hillshire farm sausage 8 carbs
2:30 pm protein shake 3 carbs
6:00pm dinner. either other half of hillshire farm sausage or wife makes a keto-ish dinner for me consiting of meat, and veggies, or a big keto salad with eggs and dressing.
8:00pm protien shake 3 carbs.
i estimate that with whatever trace carbs are in my omelets, and dinner that I'm getting about 60 carbs a day. i was really stressed that because my weight was going back up that i was not losing fat. but if you tell me that its probably just water from the creatine than i'm ok.
my plans for this week are to cutt out the protien shake that i take with breakfast, and before bed, get some fish oil, or flax oil supps. should i drink my milk after workout, before, or both? cause i gotta say, i dont know if it is the milk or what, but i'm loving the pumps i get, and i seem to be getting bigger every day.

Milk will definately throw you out of Ketosis, so try and steer away from that. Also you have too many protein shakes in your diet as well. You said you are going to be getting rid of the morning one, which I think you need as it is post workout, and the night one (which you can replace with casein shake or full fat cottage cheese).
Oh, I'm 5'7" 175lbs so you can choose to take my advice or not.... I'm just stating my opinion and the things I've learned through research and trial/error. You're a big guy 6'4", that's really tall so you should be heavier than the rest.

well to be honest i have all the tell tale signs of being in keto. stinky urine, no hunger, no gas.
before i started this diet, i would actually hurt when it was time to eat. like serious hunger pain. now i have to remind myself to eat.
fitnessman, the guy who has a masters in nutrition, has stated that for guys who are trying to bulk and cutt on keto, that we need at least 50 g of carbs a day PLUS 30 grams post workout. this will supposedly not put me out of keto. so according to him i'm not getting enough carbs.

So... are you trying to bulk or cut?
I think you are going to have to make a decision because the approaches for each differ.

I believe that with this super diet I can do both. have my cake and eat it too.
bulk because of the carbs for muscle strength and energy, fat for body fuel, so I lose weight, protein for building blocks.
because i never get enough carbs to put myself out of keto, i'll still be burning the fat, aaaaand building the muscles.

OK, I'll check in on this one myself. Hopefully a fellow "size monster" can help. I personally like this diet a lot. Biggest reasons are: lack of hunger (I usually am always hungry), effectiveness, and body feels better overall.
Now the part you aren't going to like. You aren't gonna stay at 295lbs and cut down to a lean bf%. Same thing with me. You need to be realistic. For myself, I am at about 17% bf and around 260 lbs. My goal is to get down to 10% bf, and I'm probably gonna need to get down to 230 ish. For you, if you wanted to get down to a lean 10-12% bf, you're probably gonna have to get down to 250 or 260. That doesn't mean that you won't be increasing your lean body mass in the mean time though.
As far as the diet, if you are going to be successful, I'd get on fitday.com and start tracking calories and ratio's of macro's. I'd shoot for a 500 -800 calorie a day deficit, while maintaining the 65/30/5 ratio. Don't count the carbs from the PWO shake in there.
As far as the foods, try and get more whole foods, less protein shakes. Chicken, turkey, fish combined with olive oil, pb, real cheese or other fat sources are always good. You can go with fatty meat and keep your ratio's, but I like to get more healthy fats. The fatty meat can be a real "treat" that isn't cheating though.

maybe i'm not using the right terminology.
what i want to do is stay with the steady strength and size gains that I've been making, but burn off my fat in the process.
why shouldn't i be able to do both with this diet?
i dont care if i drop down to 230 or less. i just want to have more muscle size and strength when i get there.

I knew what you were saying, but I think you misinterpreted what I was saying.
You're gonna have to cut down to probably 250 to be lean. That doesn't mean that you can't get stronger and add lean body mass (muscle) in the process. As long as your diet is dialed in, this is a distinct possibility.
My point is that you aren't gonna get lean and remain a 295 lb monster, not unless you got some good gear, a great work ethic and even better genetics.

Yeah, its all possible with the right training and diet, especially if you have good genetics.
6'4 240lbs at 10% bf would be monsterous, lol.
I hear ya, on my dad's side of the family, I'm the shortest of all the cousins. I'm even shorter than my one girl cousin. She's like 6'3.
