how much do stats matter(football)
Well its probally different for each postion but i play DE and i hear that all these o-line d-line could bench this much and squat that much but when it coem to the field msot of the time they stuck.I went to HSPD this year and i was one of the smallest linmen but (white team blue team) i was one of the best linemen on my team and i got best d-line award from the white team. And i know for a fact that most of every one who was there probally bench squated more than me.
(Also im asking because im coming off an injury and i wont be playign this year due to 2 reasons and i will start working next week but i bet most of the kids on my team i was stronger than are stronger than me now)

ofcourse scouts want you to be strong, fast and huge. but its all about how you play, worth ethic, attitude, raw talent and potential. if you can play then you can play, pretty simple.
i remember a few yrs back, one of univ of kansas few good years, they went to a bowl game, this is the big12 by the way, they had a pretty good offense, every single one of their starting o lineman were 5'10 and under 250-270lbs and they didnt let anyone get by. and few years before that, there was a White guy named dan klecko, he played dl for temple, started every year and dominated and this was when temple was in the ACC, so again, he is going up against some of the best, he was then drafted and he is still in the nfl and plays. oh and he is 5'10 250lbs and plays DT. that was his weight in college, he is about 265-270 now. he was part of the patriots superbowls and also with the colts last year. great player, he plays with heart, not with stats.

Stats mean s**t. In all honesty, if you do your job, the coaches and opponents will see that and play accordingly. If you are a good DE they will likely send plays the other way, when that happens the defence will notice that and make those adjustments. Its the same with a good shut down corner, the ball hardly ever gets thrown his way, because he usually has the WR shut down. Do yoru job, do it well, and if your defence gets stats, thats what matters as the team will get the W. Stats I prefer are team stats, yards allowed, run yards allowed, TO ratio. If you as a defence can dominate those, you will likely win games.

Dan Klecko was All Big East not ACC, im pretty sure he was Big East Defensive Player of the Year that year too. He also played at Temple at 5'11 275 (as he does now), but was listed at 6'1 280. He was 5'11 284 at the NFL combine. Still, Klecko was a beast who ran a 4.95 and benched 520lbs. he was an animal and even though he was short, he played and performed well against good schools like BC, VT, Pitt, Miami. the colts made him cut weight to 275 to take advantage of his athletic ability. he even lined up at FB on several occasions this past season.
As far as recruiting goes, weight lifting numbers dont mean THAT much. they want you to be strong but they realize that the high school athlete is a project and will take time to develop strength and more size. size is also a big issue in recruiting (more height then weight). a school would rather take a raw 6'3 230lb DE than a 5'9 210 badass all-state DE any day of the week. realistically that is how it is
