Post contest binge equals 20lbs in 4 days!
After not making weight at the weigh in I came home and went for a jog. I managed to lose another three punds instead of the 1/2lb I needed to loose. I was very dehydrated and I came home and pigged out on whatever I wanted to eat. For prejusdging I felt like crap and had a fever, probly from dehydration. I kept drinking water and peeing but I didn't feel better until I got a nap after prejudging.
So after the show I pigged out on mostly carbs for the next three days and I am now sitting at 205lbs. I weighed in at 185lbs dehydrated. I started watching my carbs today and will continue to do so until I level out. All I can say is WOW. Three days ago I looked like a bodybuilder and now I look like a power lifter haha.

That is'nt ANYTHING, I was 165 on June 9th. After winning an Open Class and being on cloud nine, well lets just say I cheated for about a week. I was 194 by June 16th
I have 1 week left on the post contest bulk ( which is the BEST time to pack on mass) I am up to 221. Still have outlined abs and feel GREAT strong as an ox on every lift and have WELL surpassed my best Deadlift and flat bar bench ever.
I do believe the best time for bulking due to LONG term carb restriction is the first 90 days after a show.

Yeah its the best feeling going into the gym and getting an awesome pump after not being able to get a pump and being so worn down from contest prep! I have now raised the intensity of my workouts and am working on feeling in those weak areas. I still plan on doing bulk/cut phases so I don't get so fat this winter!

haha i remember after m y first contest the almost exact same thing happened to me. I went to red robin and down 8 freckled lemonades, chili fries, and their chili burger all the fries from that and what ever my parents didn't eat. Then i passed out in the bath tub drinking a margarita. It was amazing but i was so uncomfortably bloated. the day after that the same thing happened but it was from ribs lol

Gaining 20 at your size isn't that big of a deal. Like you said, you were dehydrated. When I used to run longer distances, I would loose 5 pounds of water on one run. Also, you were probably depleted. When you consider that water followed Glycogen at about a 3:1, it's not unusual at all. Good luck on the bulk! I can't wait to start eating at some point! Nothing feels better than gaining strength and size!

best choice would have been to have 1-2 cheat meals...then hit the diet hard again...But that is water under the bridge (or in your belly) @ this point. Just do what you did before....continue to drink your h2o. The bloat will go away.

Last show I came in at about 220......was 231 the next day, after eating a pizza, and loaf of pumpkin bread..... all I can say is, I should have done that before the show. I looked big and shredded the next day.

Layne,
I remeber my first show I took the whole week off and got fatter then when I started the diet. Does this all depend on how lean you are? your bodytype? Obviously people take that night off and splurge, but do you take the next day off as well? What would U recommend, always wondered the right way?
Thanks now ill shut up and listen

Post contest is a very difficult situation and if you go on a full out bulk post contest you are going to do nothing but get fat. Usually what I do is take the carb amount that the person was taking in before the show and add 50g to it, while keeping protein & fat the same, maybe slightly higher on fat. After they stop gaining weight from this; I add in another 20g of carbs & 5g of fat, when they stop gaining weight on that; I add another 25g of carbs and so on and so forth. typically it takes about 10-16 weeks to get back into a full blown offseason; but done right, the fat gain can be kept to a minimum
this was also posted by madman911 on my forum and I thought it was right on target
"We've all heard of the anabolic rebound after contest prep, and many gurus advocate eating like a horse immediately after a contest to take advantage of the huge lean gains possible during this period, but I gotta agree with Layne that it doesn't work that way. The body wants to get back to its baseline body fat levels ASAP, that will always be the body's first order of business when your body fat is literally at starvation levels. I don't agree with the assertion that the body tends toward lean mass gains when body fat is low, I believe that the body likely gains lean mass most efficiently when a threshold level of body fat is achieved. When the body is satisfied that it is no longer in immediate danger of starvation, then an environment promoting lean mass gains is created. The ultimate goal should be to gradually bring the body up to that threshold level of body fat in a slow, controlled way without exceeding what is necessary to promote muscle growth. Many bodybuilders no doubt believe they are gaining tons of lean mass post-contest (not saying that's you quelly, you seem smarter than that), when, in reality, they are adding 2 points to their body fat each week. Going from 5% to 10% bodyfat in the first 2-3 weeks post-contest seems very common and I'm sure most guys think they're packing on slabs of muscle and they are just 'holding water' post-contest and that's why they're looking smooth again.... Nope, you're just 5% fatter."

Yeah I know, I believe I ate an entire pizza, a bag of chewy chips ahoy and topped off a bottle of wine last year... I'm not going to give my hopes up.
