Taking a break?

I've been weight lifting for years now, but the last few months I have not been making gains, (everything is in check). I've been reading how people say that it's crucial to take breaks every couple of months or so to let your body heal, etc. And so I was thinking of doing this. Would this help me make gains on my muscles or would it be a waste of time? If so, how long should I rest?

7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.

8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.

9 As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

generally people take a week off every 4 months or so. i'd say if you've been weight training consistently for "years" you should try a break. take a week off; hell, take two.

A week off after 8-12 weeks of training will add in recovery.
