Do you tip well?
Money talks.
I went to this barber 4 months ago, and tipped him very well, it cost $10, and I tipped him 40% (4 bucks). He is Chinese and was pretty surprised at the tip and was like "whoaa thank you"
Today, 4 months later, I go back and this guy spends like an extra 15 minutes making sure everything is perfect, even though other customers were waiting. He did a great job and it only costs me $14, and he puts the same amount of effort that a salon would spend. And salons cost like 40 bucks.

I use tips exactly s they were meant to be used.....if someone does a poor job, they get tipped poorly, average job = average tip, but if someone does an awesome job, I will tip them a substantial percentage.
EDIT** Or ifs a hot chick with a good attitude......big tip.

ok don't mean to hiijack, but its somewhat related. when you go to a bar/club etc, and buy a beer for 4 bucks or whatever. do you tip the bartender every time you order a drink? and how much?

20% for food: and for every negative thing it goes down a little bit. not uncommon for me to give a 5% tip if the waitress doesnt refill my drink or ask how it is...a little hospitality and a smile can go a long way with people.
drinks at a bar: if im gonna drink a lot i tip $1 every time. if im only going to get 2 or 3 drinks throughout the night i'll tip once for like $10 so i get faster service next time im up.
dude in bathroom with cologne: you gets any spare change i got in my pocket bro, thanks for the offer of coolwater and a paper towel, but i already have on better smelling stuff and i just wipe my clean hands on my pants.

I tip 15% always, up to 25% if it's good service. If it's extremely bad service, no tip at all

I always tip well when I have the money. I used to tip okay before being a waitor, and then I started tipping at around 25% if the service was good. If the service sucks I tip ****ty.

In Australia tipping is nowhere near as big as the ol' USA, and its not as customary. I dont know anyone who tips for outside of restraunts. But our minimum wages are pretty good here, and I guess its made up that way.

I used to wait tables and take it from me the difference between an extra buck or two is pretty big sometimes. say you have just one dude and he gets like $20 worth of something, 15% puts you at a $3 tip, but if he gives you a 5-spot then that kinda makes your day. For me at least. Its an extra buck or two from the customer but at the end of the night it makes a big difference for the waiter. I mean waiters arent exactly gettin rich with that job and more often than not they have to put up with a lot of crap. So as long as they dont out and out piss you off, try to be generous. Word to the wise: never piss off your waiter or anyone that handles your food. Just sayin.

I don't tip. Not to rant, but here is my take. They are already doing their job--and being paid for it (even if it is minimum wage). That is what they signed up for. I don't need someone to walk over to the cook and bring me my food, I'll do that.
I don't get tipped on a construction site for doing back breaking labor and going the extra mile there... why should I tip someone for a smile/doing their job?
Some of you may say, "Well that's how I got by in college/rent/whatever, it's important! They don't make that much money." There are other jobs.

Wrong. Most waiters dont make close to minimum wage. I got 2.15 an hour, and most other waiters are around there. They depend on tips for their income.

here where I live, waitresses make like $3.50 a hour which is way under minimum wage, they actually depend on tip money for their income.

I stand corrected. However, there are other job choices.

That's not an excuse for you to not tip a waiter that did a good job.
edit: I'm not attacking you I just hate it when a-holes make you serve them for 2 hours then don't tip or give you $2 on a $150 tab.

I would go up to the cook and get the food myself. It's not that big of a deal to me.

Do any of you guys tip at Starbucks/Subway/etc.? I always get dirtly looks when I don't leave my change at least in these places.
To me, in all of those places, the people who do the transaction with me do nothing special to deserve a tip. People at starbucks take your order and write your name down, big woopdie doo. People at Subway... god they are the ****TIEST sandwhich makers ever, they moan "welcome to subwayyyyyyyyyy" as if it causes excrutiating pain, then give me a dirty look when I don't tip? What the fcuk did they do to deserve one?

i tip everyone atleast 30-40 percent. the guy who cuts my hair, the bartender, my waitress, guy who unloads my bag from the car, those tip jars at every coffee place or walk up restraunt, to the fast food restraunts that started putting a tip line on their receit, the valet, food delivery guy, at the car wash.....
(pulled all of those off wikipedia under american tipping).
its gotten so bat**** crazy anyone who does the job they WERE HIRED TO DO thinks the deserve a tip anymore. i have money and i didnt get it by handing it out to everyone who thinks they want it for doing their job.
dollar a drink at the bar and 18 percent tops if restraunt service is really good. i dont care if i make anyones day better, at the end of the day they care as much about me that i do about them - not at all.
