Vitamin overdose from veggies?
I eat a lotta broccoli and I just noticed that already 100gr broccoli contain more than 100% of the RDA of vitamin C. I eat three to four hundred grams at once. Can this be a problem?
And another problem is spinach. 100gr spinach already contain like 75% of the RDA of vitamin A.
But 100gr is a joke. When I eat spinach I eat at least 200gr and then I already have approximately 150% of the RDA of Vitamin A! And Vitamin A can be toxic. Does this mean that you have to be careful not too eat too many vegetables?

You again
Well... the RDA of Vit-C is only 60 mg ... and many people safely take 2000mg + per day, I'd say eat mothballs ...

Vitamin C is debatable but what about Vitamin A? Too much A clearly is poisonous.

The RDA for protein intake is 50 grams per day. If that tells you anything, consider the implications on vitamin and mineral recomendation. You are not going to overdose on anything eating veggies.

Hypervitaminosis A is caused by overconsumption of preformed vitamin A, not carotenoids... and it's associated with long-term consumption of preformed vitamin A in excess of 10 times the RDA ...

Well... anything is wretched excess will cause problems ... nevertheless, unlike preformed Vitamin A (retinol) (from animal or supplemental origins), carotenoids (from plant origins) do not exhibit the same toxic effects if consumed in "excess" doses ...

Don't forget, RDA's r average guidekines . . .
The average guidelines (RDA's) r based on the needs of the sedentary "average American" couch potato, not the needs of the strength athlete.
Ur body can store surpluses of fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E & K) in the liver & fatty tissues. Since they can be stored, the fat-soluble vitamins pose a risk of buildup 2 the point of toxicity.
But in practice this won't happen from eating foods, it is only a problem when large does of supplements r taken:
http://www.ext.colostate.edu/pubs/foodnut/09315.html
Surpluses of water-soluble vitamins (all the others) r excreted.
