Season put to an end by Serious Back Injury
So last week while playing in the Ontario Keenan Division (D1) for my Club's Mens team I suffered a severe back sprain.
It felt really weird I couldn't move at all I thought I was paralyzed at first. According to the doctor I have strained the Erector Spinae and damaged some of my Intertransversarii muscles. He said I have to stop physical activity, i.e playing rugby and any training plus working out, for 9 weeks MINIMUM! He said that when I come back I might have to wait longer if it hasn't healed properly
he also said that I might have to have surgery to remove the scar tissue that will form, otherwise I will end up losing a lot of flexibility in my back and be susceptible to repeat injuries.
He also said I got lucky and that things could have been a lot worse. It was a weird experience, I've never been carried off the field before....
At least my teams have been very successful this year, my U18 team has gone 8-0 to take the Niagara & Southwest trophy and will soon challenge for the Provincial title. And the Mens team suffered only its second loss in the game that I was injured in.
I'm goign to go crazy if I can't train for 9 weeks, and possibly more time that that! How do you guys cope with injuries?!?!?!
As a side note, I've also been ruled out of going to the National Championship in Nfld, it started just this past week, the team left like 2 days after my injury. But I was way down in the depth chart and not likely to make the 1st XV anyway.

Mate, that sucks. However, I would strongly suggest taking the doctors advice, and I wouldn't even dream of doing any work until you are 100% confident that it has healed.
I was spear tackled and suffered a pretty bad neck injury, I didn't heed the dr's advice and I still have problems with it.
It is the one injury that if not properly looked after will come back to haunt you later in life.

That dos stink man. But listen to your signature. YOU can do ALL things through which CHRIST STRENGTHENS YOU!
Thats powerful if you really think about it. Great verse. Best thing you can do is stick to what your doctor says. I would ask him if you can swim, or do water running to keep your cardiorespiratory conditioning up. You can probably do body weight things, such as pushups, pullups, stay away from crunches and ab work on the floor. Unless you are in a roman chair. You can probably do back extensions also, no weight though just body weight. Dips are something you can probably do also. I think your doctor wants you to stay away from anything that puts an axial load on the spine (direct load) as well as anything that puts a sever amount of torque on your back. Ask him about bodyweight stuff. Just tell him you still want to exercise, just what can you do in the mean time.

I will definitely ask him about that, plus my family actually has an in-ground pool so that would work out quite well.
Thanks for you advice guys

Hey man of course. Many of us have had some type of injury in the past. Ive had a vertebrae problem before from skiing, and two knee injuries, one which required surgery, so we feel your pain bro. At least you dont have a disc problem

So when are you gonna talk to your doctor about what you CAN do? Doctors love to tell people what they CANT do. Drives me nuts.

Good Luck on Recovery.
My wrist got screwed up last week and I have a brace on it. Good thing I can still practice with it though; your injury must suck.
