BREAKING NEWS: Florida Child Attempts to Flee Hurricane Dean On Bike
http://www.allheadlinenews.com/articles/7008229960
Elsewhere, a missing 8-year-old girl from Deland, Florida was found by police on her bycicle. Volusia County authorities spotted her by helicopter about a mile from her home pedaling as fast as she could.
The family had just moved to Florida from Ohio. The child told police she was scared of the approaching hurricane and was trying to get back to her old home in Columbus.
Is that cute or what?

AAWWW poor thing!
I was never scared of hurricanes, I loved the wind and would go sit in the banyans trees and get mystical feelings. Of course I grew up with hurricanes.

Naw the more time you spend in hurricane zones the more your immune system develops a resistance against strong hurricanes

Hurricanes are not fun. Those of you that say that you like them, there's something wrong with you. [SERIOUS]
I sat through the Hurricane season of '04 where we had 3 Hurricanes hit within 2 months. All I can say is that it is something that I can live without. Of course I have 3 small children so my concerns were on them. Anyways it was not a fun time.

Hurricanes aren't bad because Texas is pretty hot and they bring breezes and rain and it cancels football practice

They're not THAT unpredictable. There's always a 400 mile uncertainty cloud... I mean yeah it's not going to be exact but it's not like it'll make a runningback cut towards Miami when it's headed towards India or something

A hurricane can't be that unpredictable--there's several hours of notice, sometimes more than a day, before it actually hits. Now a tornado, *that* is unpredictable. All things considered, though, I prefer not to deal with either.

Earthquakes are the most unpredictable because tornados only form during certain conditions, like twirling storms. There are usually Tornado Watches then Tornado Warnings before they touchdown.
Earthquakes... lol there's no such thing as an Earthquake Watch cuz it simply happens. There are some "dangerous faultlines" but you don't know if it's going to crack in 2 hours or 20 years.
Volcanoes too but on a lesser scale.
Yes I am a meteorologist.

It's not "that" the wind is blowin'....it's "what" the wind is blowin'....if you get hit with a Volvo, it doesn't really matter how many situps you did that morning...

Hurricane Rita (September 2005)
A lot of football practice was cancelled *SCORE*
BUT unfortunately people died due to indirect consequences of the hurricane
Ironically, people died while evacuating when they could've survived if they simply stayed home. But you can't predict that, they did what they thought was the best action.
But yeah Hurricane Rita missed Katy Texas by many many miles and we got cool looking clouds and some wind that's it

FYI a tornado watch is when conditions exist for tornadoes. A tornado WARNING is when someone has actually spotted a funnel cloud or tornado and called it in. Tornadoes suck and usually come in multiples.
