Thinking about getting my car painted...need some info (serious) (REPS)
I have a '98 Honda Accord 4D Silver that I'd like to get painted Jet Black. I think it would make the car look a lot better and increase the value for whenever I sell it since it is retty scratched up right now. I am planning on having a local place paint it but don't know what a normal price is and don't want to over-pay for it. How much does something like this usually cost?

changing the color of a car to something besides its factory color will DECREASE the value of the car.

I'm thinking of getting my el camino a nice black paint job, too. I'm thinking I'd like to have two white racing stripes down the middle of the hood and roof.

For instance, if you bought $2,000 rims for your car, you wouldnt see a PENNY for those wheels when you sold the car. You would get the exact same, or within $100, amount as if you had kept the original wheels on.

And why is it bad to repaint, or even another color? Because people think theres something up with the car.

when looking at resale value you want to keep everything as original as possible. when you try to resell and the potential buyer sees the car used to be silver he's going to think somethin was wrong with it.

Well the problem with changing the factory color is it involves about double the labor to do correctly because all the interior panels must be removed. Door jambs, trunk and engine compartment must all be painted. It will cost you a lot more and if you skip on painting that stuff and just paint "what you see" on the outside then it WILL decrease the value because no one wants a "hacked" up ghetto paint job.
In my area repainting the entire car a different color would cost $3000-$3500ish if there is no major bodywork involved. Just a respray of the factory color wouldnt be anymore than $1500 and it would really make the car look like new again. The new paint job would probably increase the retail value maybe $500-600 so dont count on that if you plan to sell the car anytime soon.

Pretty much hit the nail on the head for switching colors. Hell a really good paintjob may even be $4-5k.

That completely depends on the situation and the kind of car though. But yeah, an Accord is still gonna be an Accord.
If you really have your heart set on getting it painted a different color than factory, make sure whoever's doing it really knows what they're doing or it'll wind up looking terrible. It's gonna cost a good bit too for a different color, for a really good job, anyways. I don't know a lot about the prices, but anyone who charges a cheap price for that is gonna do a half assed job for sure.

Flat Black is nice you could do it by yourself scartch off the paint and use the ACE hardward rust resistance paint. to make them flow easily you put them in a bucket of hot water.
I never tried it but seen in in a magazine and there was another magainze called Hot Rod i think the issue one month ago how to do a cheap paint.
but if you are not sure about yourself and dont want to wast time and have the cash to spare then it better to send it to pro

try taking it to an auto-detailer to get the scratches out.
go to autopia.org (or.com i forget) and ask around. It's a forum for pretty much auto-detailing nerds (enthusiasts lol). there's a LOT of good information and leads on that site.
if ur gonna re-paint; to retain the value, the best thing would be to paint the original color.
otherwise, spend $200-300 for a good detailing job and be amazed (i've seen some miracle make-overs).
