~4-5 Liters of Water~(REPS)
Hey guys! I drink 4-5 liters of water and green tea...mostly green tea(perday). Anyway, is it good/wise doing so? Some ppl have been advising me to drink less cause they said that 4-5 is just too much..they say i should keep it to 3-3.5 liters max. Is it true? am i overdrinking? Help will be appreciated! reps will be given too! thanks guys!

In extreme circumstances, if you drink WAY too much water, you could get water poisoning. But again, that's just in extreme circumstances, and I don't think your 4-5 liters qualify as such. On the other hand, it wouldn't hurt to drop the intake down a bit. Why is it that you drink so much?

A lot of it also depends on how much you workout. I personally drink 1.5-2 gallons each day. I workout hard day. When I don't drink at least .5 gallon I feel dehydrated by the end of the day.

also if you drink to much your blood will become to watery and utlimately lead to death. a radio station that is near my city had a water drinking contest, who ever drank the most water in a given time won. a woman won, but she drank so much she died. I wish I knew how much water she drank in what amount of time, but it was alot in not alot of time. This was last year. Be careful on how much you drink.

I didn't mean for it to be funny, and it wasn't funny in the least when it happened. Everyone around here was shocked, and how would you feel if your mother (who wanted nothing more than to surprise you with a brand new video-game system) died after drinking too much water under the supervision of idiot radio talk-show hosts.

it was for an xbox 360. at least she died for a good reason. its sad, but it was shocking that she died from drinking to much water.
there was another story where a college student was working out, doing pushups and drinking water only. he drank a ton of water and also died from it.

You're correct, and this wiki link mentions a couple other instances of hyperhydration.

So everyone has commented on drinking to much water, but no one said anything about the fact he is drinking 4-5 liters of mostly green tea a day not water. I dont drink that much green tea so I am not sure what that would do to you...

Oh, I misread his post. Yeah I'm not sure about the effects of that, it also depends on how strong the tea is being prepared. Green tea acts as a diuretic I believe?

To be honest, more would be better. In studies I've read an average adult should drink 2.5 Litres of water a day. Given this fact and if you are an active or above normally active person, especially taking creatine of any kind/ loading it; truth be told I would try to double the intake or a little more myself. I think you're fine.

Note that the woman was in a drinking contest and couldn't go to the bathroom.
"Water intoxication (also known as hyperhydration or water poisoning) is a potentially fatal disturbance in brain function that results when the normal balance of electrolytes in the body is pushed outside of safe limits by a very rapid intake of water.[1] Normal, healthy individuals have little to worry about accidentally overconsuming water. Nearly all deaths related to water intoxication in normal individuals have resulted either from water drinking contests, in which individuals attempt to consume several gallons over the course of just a few minutes, or long bouts of intensive exercise during which time electrolytes are not properly replenished, yet massive amounts of fluid are still consumed." - wikipedia
If anything, drink more water and less green tea since it is a diuretic.

Thats super-extreme circumstance of course
Your right. You can't have water toxicity if you have spreading it out over the day. Especially if your an active person and workout a lot/ use creatine. In a days time one can drink A LOT of water and be fine. He/She will just be pissing a hell of a lot!

What type of green tea and what is the concentration?
As the following link points out, there are incredible benefits to green tea, but also a few mild side effects...such as insomnia and nervousness.

If you fit into any of the categories they discuss about Iron levels in the blood, you may want to be careful. But otherwise, it looks to be pretty safe. Just make sure you are still taking in enough plain water!
