I find almonds especially, as great foods for cutting. As long as you do not "overindulge," they are a great snack. They provide the "good" monosaturated fats that boost test levels and help build muscle. In David Zinczenko's book, "The Abs Diet," the writes cites almonds as one of the power foods used to help in the cutting process. So, as long as you eat them in moderation (stick to the serving), almonds will be a great benefit to you.

Both are great for different reasons. Almonds are high in monsosaturated fats, where walnuts probably have the best ratio of Omega 3 to 6. I prefer walnuts for this reason.

While almonds aren't really consider a supplement, they make a nice addition to your diet when you're consuming meals very low in fats (especially avoid saturated fats). Fats are an important part of your diet, so make sure you do consume some healthy fats. They can also be found in fish (salmon, mackerel), Olive Oil, Natural PB, etc.
As far as supplements, Fish oil (6-10g per day)
Flax seed Oil (1-2 tbsp)
MCT
Sesamin
Hemp seed oil (1-2 tbsp)
would all make nice additions to supplement the amount of fat your body needs.

Yup, I agree -- Walnuts are the better choice. But, almonds taste a lot better.

You can't get EPA/DHA from walnuts.
Just in general: nuts (in moderation) are fine for cutting. If you are really cutting (i.e. contest prep.) they should be avoided, as phospholipid permeability and inflammation start to matter significantly more in such scenarios.

Extra virgin olive oil is a superior source of MUFs.

He is right on both counts. On a contest prep for instance, when calories become at a premium, ditch any nuts and opt for flax oil or fish oil. This(the fish oil, and to a lesser extent flax oil) is where you get your EPA/DHA. The reason flax oil is less so for DHA/EPA is its parent is ALA, which has to broken down to the afforementioned.
Good post.
