***misc! Medical Help!!! (serious!)***
I didn't know who else to ask for help. My bro has been feeling like **** for the past two days, and he thought it was just a flu. Just general pain, lethargy, and diarrhea. He took some typical flu meds, like tylenol flu, benelyn etc, but they didn't seem to work very well.
It peaked this morning when he had to rush to the emergency ward because of the immense pain. He was on two IV's for several hours, but he kept complaining to the doctor that he was still in the same amount of pain as when he got there, so they told him they didn't know what was wrong with him, and sent him home.
Now he's bed-ridden, and literally cannot move because he has no energy due to not eating much solid food for the past few days as well as the diarrhea. He's still in immense pain, and they didn't give him any medication. So I told him I'll head over and try my best to take care of him, i.e help him with anything he needs and make something for him to eat.
I'm pretty decent at cooking, so I just need to know what'd be best to make for him. He needs some energy, and I don't think overly-heavy foods would work best right now. Just some food that will be easy on the stomach and nutritional.
Please help misc, reps will be spread. I'm really worried about him.
Thanks

Thanks for the 1 reply. Reps. edit- on recharge
I don't get the misc though, an important thread like this gets one reply, yet a thread about the new Bourne movie is filled to the brim with posts. Oh well.
If anyone else has anything to say, it'd be great! Thanks guys.

Thats what I was thinking.
An IV should have helped him though. I'd try and get him to drink lots of water and soup and just have him sleep. Slip him some Tylenol PMs if he can't sleep naturally. Sleep is the best medicine you can have while you are sick.
If he doesn't feel any better tomorrow (he should) then I would take him to the doctor.

He was on a gravol drip, and an electrolyte drip. Neither did **** all. He's 21. And I think it's just general body pain, expect more intense.

The IV was probably just a 1000cc of saline to hydrate him.
you need to keep him hydrated all the same. Immense cramping/stomach pains could be due to a load of things... norowalk virus, food poisoning, a digestive TI...

I'd just give him lots of fluids for the time being, he'll probably crap out anything else.
If he isn't better tomorrow, I'd take him to a doctor. 3 days is usually where I set the threshold for GI stuff.

Can you call back the emergency room and hound them for answers? That seems pretty ****ty of them to just discharge him!
If he feels like eating anything, let him eat it. Whenever you are sick, its best to eat what sounds good.
Also, the basics, soup, crackers, gatorade, maybe some sherbert or sorbet or whatever it is.
Damn, good luck and I hope everything goes well for you.

Yeah I figured it's food poisoning, but this seems more intense than when I had food poisoning, so I got a bit worried.
He told me the ER had him on an electrolyte drip and a gravol drip.

Yeah, I guess so. I remember when I got food poisoning, the only thing I didn't immediately **** out was arrow-head crackers (baby crackers).

Yeah, I guess that's the plan. Maybe some green tea/water/gatorade and some crackers or something light. Thanks for the good wishes.

I threw most of you on the reps on recharge list btw, thanks for the help. I guess I can close the thread now, it seems I've received all the info I'm going to get.

Give your brother Gatorade. It will replenish lost electrolytes and will help him keep hydrated.
Don't give him hard food, and give him nothing with caffeine in it (caffeine is a diuretic).

Call the ER and tell them he's worse. They can advise you appropriately.

That sounds pretty hardcore.
If he can barley stomch anything, get him do drink the liptons cup-a- soup stuff so at least he gets SOME calories to help his antibodies fight the virus. Also get him do drink tons and tons of water to flush that **** out. Force him to drink water even if hes constantly puking it up, it will get better.
